Alternate row shading

Im using Quickbooks on a PC desktop. My invoices currently appear on my screen with every other line shaded a light blue. However, when i print or email the invoices to my clients, the light blue doesn't print. This makes my invoices very hard to read. Help?

Hello Amy189,

Nice to see you in the Community! You can change the color and other theme setting by following the steps below.

  1. From the Lists tab, select Templates.
  2. Double-click the form you want to modify.
  3. Under Change Font For: section, select the field you want to edit.
  4. Click Change Font.
  5. Select the Font, Font Style, Size, Effects.
  6. Select a Color.
  7. Click OK and then OK.

Also, if you want to change the color of the gridlines, you can select a color under Select Color Scheme and then click Apply Color Scheme.

I'll be around if there's anything that I can help. Keep safe!

Alternate row shading

i need the gridlines to print and to translate to the invoice pdf i am sending to customers. I can see the light blue now; and don't really care what color it is. I just need the alternate shading to Print and appear on the invoice PDF that i am emailing to customers. Maybe i wasn't clear enough with my question.

I appreciate you for clarifying, @amy189.

In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), the gridlines you're referring to are currently exclusive to invoice entry and cannot be customized on the invoice templates for enhanced visibility to your customers. In the meantime, you may consider exploring compatible third-party apps that offer additional customization options for your invoice templates.

Please know that we appreciate you for sharing your valuable insights with us. That said, I'll help you share your recommendation with our software engineers, so they can consider incorporating this feature in our product upgrades. To do that:

  1. Go to Help and click Send Feedback Online.
  2. Select Product Suggestion.
  3. Enter your feature request, then Send Feedback.

Moreover, running sales reports is a breeze for efficient revenue tracking in QBDT. You may also customize them to focus on the details most relevant to your business.

To address this limitation, you may consider exploring compatible third-party apps that offer additional customization options for your invoice templates.

Thank you for getting back and posting your further concerns here in the Community, Amy.

Since Community is a public forum, we can’t provide nor suggest a specific application for you to use in alternate row shading in your invoices in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Although, you can scan this page that shows different applications you can integrate into your QBDT that would align with your business needs: QuickBooks 3rd party app integrations.

After finding the right app that suits you, you might want to check this article on how you can integrate your chosen application in your QBDT using the Web Connector: Set up QuickBooks Web Connector.

Feel free to comment below if you have further questions about integrating applications in QBT. I’ll be here to assist you at any time. Have a good one!

Alternate row shading

Hi Amy,

In my version of QB Enterprise, there is a checkbox in the print window that says "Shade alternate table rows". That's what I use to print invoices with alternating color rows.  When you go to print the invoice, see if you have that little box available to check.  If you apply a color scheme in the layout designer, I think that will change the color of the rows but there is no actual layout setting that will set those rows to alternate colors.  Hope this helps!
