Backup problems with loan feature

I recently needed to back up my QuickBooks files and move them temporarily to a different computer.  I use the loan feature extensively with my rental properties.  It did not back up the loans.  Why?  Is there some way to preserve the detail for the loans.

Backup problems with loan feature

Thank you for posting here in the Community, Bookkeepic.

I’m happy to guide you today so you’ll be able to back up your accounting data in QuickBooks Desktop.

The backup company file saves everything currently in your company file. This includes your accounting data, templates, letters, logos, images, and related files ( QuickBooks Statement Writer, Cash Flow Projector, Business Planner, and Loan Manager). However, it doesn't back up your payroll forms.

Let me guide you how:

1. To locate the file, navigate to the folder where the QuickBooks company file (.QBW) was stored on your local computer.

2. The Loan Manager file will be named Company_File.lmr

3. Place the file in the same folder that the company file was stored.

4. Re-launch QuickBooks once the file has been placed in the folder that contains your company file.

5. The data should now appear in the Loan Manager.

Now that you have a backup company file you can use it to restore your company file.  This file has a .qbb extension at the end of the file name. For more details about  restoring your file, just check out these articles:

Feel free to leave a comment below if you have other questions about creating backups in QuickBooks. I’m always here to help.

Backup problems with loan feature

I do not have a problem with backing up my files.  I do that regularly.  I can see the loan files on my computer now, but they need to transfer with a regular backup.  I did not have access to my computer when I had to transfer my files to a different computer and the loans did not transfer with the regular backup I had saved.  When my computer was repaired I did not trust the backup feature since I did not have the loans in my new files.  I recreated all the new entries into my previous records.
