Bill column spacing

Why can QB not figure out column spacing?  I enter bills for hours on end, typically copying and modifying.  Without fail, the (Expenses) Account and Amount get squeezed so small that most of the data is blocked.  Meanwhile, the memo field expands to be about 80% of the line, again cutting off Job and Class.

I widen the narrow columns every time.  I save invoices with the correct spacing.  Without fail, QB takes it upon itself to go back into my saved bills and resize my fields.  Why?  Just leave our data alone.  We got this.

Bill column spacing

Hi there, Galin. We appreciate the time you’ve spent adjusting and saving layouts.

When QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) continues to revert to unusual column spacing after resizing, the issue is related to data integrity problems that impacted your setup. You can utilize the verify and rebuild data process, as it can help uncover and resolve data integrity issues in the program or company file.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to Window and select Close All.
  2. Click File and choose Utilities.
  3. Hit Verify Data.

If the verify tool finds damaged data, use the rebuild tool to repair your company file. A backup is required before you can rebuild. Here's how:

  1. Go to File, then select Rebuild Data under Utilities.
  2. When prompted, click OK to create a backup before rebuilding.
  3. Choose a location to save the backup, enter a unique file name, and select Save.
  4. Click OK once you see the "Rebuild has completed" message.

For more details about the verify and rebuild tool, you may refer to this resource material: Verify and Rebuild data in QuickBooks Desktop.
