billable time/cost

Hello,

I use Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise 2022.

When I do a customer invoice I use "Add time/cost" and choose "Items" (parts).  Sometimes it will show an asterisk next to the item I added to my invoice and sometimes it does not.  Why does it do this?  It is very helpful when the asterisk shows next to the item I already used in my invoice.

I appreciate any help.

billable time/cost

Hello, Tradewinds1.

An asterisk (*) will show up once item added in the invoice if the transaction is not save yet. However, when the invoice is already saved, the asterisk will no longer appear in the added item.

For additional reference, I'm adding some articles that you may find helpful:

If you have any other questions or concerns besides the asterisk on the transactions, don’t hesitate to add a message. I’ll be here. Always take care!

After an invoice was saved, how do I see which billable items and costs were linked to that invoice? The Transaction History doesn't allow me to trace that connection.

Thanks for following up with the Community, erlevine4545.

If you're not seeing billable time or costs on invoices after saving them with billable time and costs on them, you can track job costs with job costing reports to see how your business is doing on a job-by-job basis.

These reports can be used to identify jobs that are profitable and ones which aren't. They also help you create estimates and analyze how well each job is progressing financially.

Here's how to view various job reports:

  1. In the top menu bar, go to Reports.
  2. Select Jobs, Time, & Mileage.

In the event you're using Premier Contractor Edition or Accountant Edition, you'll have access to a wider range of job costing reports.

Here's how to find them:

  1. In your top menu bar, go to Reports.
  2. Select Industry Specific, then Contractor Reports.

I've also included a detailed resource about tracking job costs which may come in handy moving forward: Track job costs

If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have an awesome Monday!
