Converting a purchase order into an estimate isn't an option, coleproinc.
I can lay down some scenarios to take the information from the vendor's purchase order (PO) to the customer's account. Please know that both the PO and estimates are non-posting transactions.
If your goal is to bring the POs data to the customer's account, let's start by receiving the goods you ordered with the purchase order. The transaction you use depends on when you pay for the items.
- Create an item receipt if you’ll get the bill at a later date.
- Create a bill if you received a bill when you received the items.
- Create a check or credit card charge if you paid for the items as soon as you received them.
- For inventory items, here’s how to record the items you received.
Next, convert the PO to a bill, then make it billable to the customer. These will link the items when you enter an invoice. I've attached a screenshot below for your visual reference.
When you create an invoice, the Billable Time/Costs window will appear. Choose the Select the outstanding billable time and costs to add to this invoice option to bring in the PO details.
Making items billable to customers is called Job Costing in QBDT. You can learn more about the process through this article: Track job costs in QuickBooks Desktop.
Post again here if you need more help with managing purchase orders in QuickBooks. I'll gladly help you resolve them. Stay safe and have a great week ahead!
