Cannot set up a new company

I am using QB Pro Desktop 2019 and cannot set up a new company.  Only three small "entities" (all personal entities, no businesses) are currently being maintained.  This is the screen progression:

1.  I opened QB

2.  I clicked No Company Open

3.  i clicked Create New Company

4.  I clicked For Myself (as admin)

5.  I clicked Start Setup

6.  On the next screen, "Glad you're here," I entered all data (company name, industry, business type, etc.)

7.  I clicked "Create Company" button at the bottom.  Screen stays frozen and will not advance.  No instructions or notes are otherwise given on the screen.

I am a retired CFO/CPA and have been using QB for as long as I can remember, so I understand the landscape.  I run Windows 11 and only 20% of the SSD is being used.  Can anyone offer suggestions to solve the problem in # 7 above?  Thank you so much!

Cannot set up a new company

Can you open the sample company file, save it with a new name, close it, and reopen the saved company file without any problems?

Cannot set up a new company

Thanks for getting in touch with the Community, Old Retired Jim non IT Guy.

Since your books are freezing when trying to create a new company file, I'd initially recommend confirming that QuickBooks is up-to-date with its latest release.

If you're using the latest release, but your books continue freezing when trying to create a new company, you can begin troubleshooting with the Verify Data utility. This identifies known issues within company files and informs users if their Rebuild Data tool needs to be utilized afterwards.

Here's how it's used:

  1. Click Window, then Close All.
  2. In your top menu bar, go to File.
  3. Choose Utilities.
  4. Select Verify Data.

If its results show a "Your data has lost integrity," message, this indicates there's damage in your file. You can use the Rebuild Data utility to fix it. For specific errors, there may already be a resource for them on our support site.

In the event it displays a "QuickBooks detected no problems with your data," notification, or you've searched our help articles and didn't find any existing resources about the specific error it displayed, you can move on to troubleshooting with our QuickBooks Tool Hub.

Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks and download a copy of the utility's most recent version, then run it.
  2. Follow along with your on-screen steps to complete installation and agree with our terms and conditions.
  3. Once it's installed, double-click its icon to open the tool hub. If you can't find your app, perform a search in Windows for "QuickBooks Tool Hub" and select the program.
  4. Access your Company File Issues tab and use the Quick Fix my file and QuickBooks File Doctor tools to troubleshoot your company file. In the event you need additional assistance, choose File Dr Help.

If your books continue freezing when trying to create a new company, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up the account in a secure environment, conduct further research with you, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

I've also included a detailed resource about creating company files which may come in handy moving forward: Create a company file
