Cash Clearing Account

How do I get rid of a cash clearing account?  I did not create it.  It appears to be a duplicate linked account to the credit card account which is also linked.  I cannot find it in the managed linked accounts to delete it.  How did it get there and how do I get rid of it?

Cash Clearing Account

Good evening, @lAWTFC.

It's great to see you back in the Community.

The best place to look at first in your QuickBooks Online account is your chart of accounts. Let's check to see if we can see the account through there:

  1. Go to the Accounting tab on the left-hand menu.
  2. Press the Chart of accounts portion of the page.
  3. Scroll and locate the account.
  4. If you found the account, select the drop-down arrow under the action column. Then hit Make inactive

Here's an article that can provide you with some more information: Make an account inactive on your chart of accounts.

If this doesn't work, please give me more details or screenshots about this issue. I'll be waiting for your response!

Thank you.  I was able to locate the account in my chart of accounts before seeking a solution here.  The question though was not how to make the newly auto created account made by QBO go inactive, my question is how did the account get created in my bank, how did it get linked, and how to UNLINK it so I can then delete it from my bank account listing?

Thanks for getting back to us, @IAWTFC.

I'll share the steps on how you can unlink your clearing cash account. To begin with, you'll want to check the audit log report to view who creates and connect the account. Just go to Gear at the top and then select Audit log. This is where QuickBooks Online (QBO) keep tracks of the activities of your account.

Refer to this article to learn more: Use the audit log in QuickBooks Online.

Next, disconnect the cash account from online banking by following the steps below.

  1. Go to Banking.
  2. Choose the tile for the clearing cash account.
  3. Tap the Pencil icon, and then select Edit account info.
  4. Tick the Disconnect this account on save checkbox.
  5. Click Save and Close.

With the above steps, you're able to unlink the account and make it inactive. See this guide for details: Disconnect accounts connected to online banking.

I've also added these links to help you manage bank-related tasks, edit, merge, and make inactive.

Please let me know if you have other questions about the cash accounts. I'm more than happy to answer them for you. Take care and have a great day ahead.
