Hi there, @DRMat. You can adjust your overall view preferences to improve visibility, as QuickBooks Desktop uses a fixed-grid interface that does not support manual column resizing. This restriction ensures rows stay aligned, especially when viewing multiple lines of info, preventing the register from becoming unreadable if a column is moved too far.
To improve your view despite this regulation, you can utilize the program's built-in display preferences. These settings allow you to reconfigure how data is stacked to maximize the available space.
First, you can adjust the layering of your text. Uncheck the 1-Line box at the bottom left of the register to enable the 2-Line view. This moves the "Memo" and "Account" details to a second row, giving your "Payee" name significantly more room on the top line.
You can also maximize your workspace by changing your window settings. Go to Edit > Preferences > Desktop View and select One Window. This forces the register to fill your entire screen, stretching the fixed columns to their maximum possible width.
Finally, check your Windows system settings to ensure the interface isn't being artificially compressed. Right-click your computer desktop, select Display Settings, and confirm your Scale is set to 100%. Scaling levels like 125% can zoom the interface in too far, causing fixed columns to appear cut off.
With these changes, your transactions will be much easier to read, even though the column borders remain fixed.
