Clicking on Incorporate Accountant's Changes Does Nothing

I'm importing an accountants change file and I get all the way to the review changes window, click on Incorporate Accountant's Changes and literally nothing happens, no errors, no new windows open, nothing, QB acts like I haven't clicked on anything. Need some suggestions please.

Thanks for the details, Carter_J.

You can isolate why your QuickBooks Desktop program is unresponsive by running the verify and rebuild steps.

I'm here to guide you how to perform this task:

  1. Click the File menu.
  2. Under Utilities, select Verify Data.

If you see a specific error message, you can look for the steps to resolve it on our QuickBooks Desktop support site.

If these steps didn't  work, import the accountant's copy on a test file. It helps identify if the problem is caused by a damaged QuickBooks installer or possible data integrity issues. I've added this link as your reference for the detailed steps: Try using Accountant's Copy in a Test File.

I've also added these links as your guide in converting the accountant's working file to a regular company file: Convert accountant's copy to a regular working file.

You can always find me in the Community whenever you have questions about converting the file.

We are experiencing same issue.  Did you find a fix?

I don't think issue related to system unresponsive as other buttons seemed to function properly.  When we click on the Incorporate Accountant Changes button, there's a small time/clock face icon that appears but disappears fairly quickly as if QB was working on incorporating the changes but nothing happens.  No error msg pops up.  We've tried through the ACFTS and email attachment with same results.

I think this features cleverly uses browser windows instead of standard application windows (which would work without issue).

If so, it's probably another issue related to the embedded browser Intuit recently wrote and included in QuickBooks updates - to replace Internet Explorer at the last possible moment, even though MS announced its end of support date over a year ago.

It seems to be very error prone and causes crashes as well as the symptoms you describe where buttons don't do anything and/or expected windows don't appear.

Having the exact same issue.  I was forced to update the software just two days ago, and since then we have been unable to "incorporate accountant changes" either from the web or from a file.  QB customer service tells me today that Intuit has recently opened an investigation on this matter.  Sure hope they solve it quickly as our accountant copies are backing up!

We didn't have any issues with the Incorporate Accountant's Changes button at the end of May-2022 when we were still on the R4 update.  We updated to R5 in June and now the Incorporate Accountant's Changes button is not working.  You click the button and nothing happens.  I've gone through the "verify data" step (File/Utilities/Verify Data) and receive the "QuickBooks detected no problems with your data".  I've rolled back to a prior company file and have had our accountant send another file and that doesn't help the issue.  We still have the issue of the "Incorporate Accountant's Changes" button not working.  You can see it be "pushed" with your mouse click and you get the little blue circle like it's thinking for a second... and then nothing.

Clicking on Incorporate Accountant's Changes Does Nothing

Hello there, @TourItMedia.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention and doing the basic troubleshooting steps to sort out your concern with Incorporate Accountant's Changes button.

I want to ensure that you’ll be able to get back to business in no time. With this, you’ll want to remove the closing date based on your accountant’s changes to enable to option.

Here’s how:

  1. Select Accounting from the menu.
  2. Launch the Preferences tab next.
  3. Select Company Preferences from the menu.
  4. The current Closing Date can be found here.
  5. Decide whether to set a password or date. The Set Closing Date/Password screen will then be displayed.
  6. The Closing Date field's date can now be deleted.
  7. Click OK to save the changes.

Afterward, you can then utilize the Incorporate Accountant's Changes button again.

I also added this article for your reference when setting or changing a closing date and closing date password in QuickBooks Desktop.

Keep me posted if you need further assistance with your books. I’ll get back as soon as I can. Stay safe!

I followed your instructions and deleted the close date and it made no difference.

I then deleted the close date passwords and tried again and that made no difference.

I then closed and reopened the files, confirmed there was no close date set, and clicked on the Incorporate Accountant's Changes button and it simply does not work.

Please find a solution soon.... our accountant copies are backing up!!!

We found a fix finally.  Hopefully it'll work for you:

On your Windows desktop, add new administrator/user profile.

You don't need to add an account/email to associate with that profile, just add as a local user.

Once new user profile added, login to Windows under that profile and you'll go through the normal Windows setup process.  Once that's complete, start QB, login and try the Incorporate Accountants Changes again.  If that worked, you can log back into your original windows profile and double check the accountant changes were incorporated.

Hope that helps!

the local user/profile must be added as "administrator" account

Sadly, this didn't work for me. When I add new user, by default it is a "standard" user. I have to change it to administrator after it is added. Does this sound correct?

Yes, changing profile to administrator account should work.

Adding new profiles, depending on your Windows version, it gets a bit tricky.  For Windows 10, I usually go through the "User Accounts" in the old Control Panel interface.  (Click on Windows button and type in Control Panel and select User Accounts and then select Manage Another Account option).  I can't stand the default settings pages on Windows 10.  Always go through Control Panel.

Could the problem be that the accountant file was generated in QB 2019 and I am using QB 2022

Thanks for joining this thread, 88stearns.I appreciate you and DougalDog performing each of my colleague's recommended troubleshooting steps.

Since your Incorporate Accountant's Changes button still isn't functioning like it should, I'd recommend troubleshooting with our QuickBooks Tool Hub.

Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks and download a copy of the utility's most recent version, then run it.
  2. Follow along with your on-screen steps to complete installation and agree with our terms and conditions.
  3. Once it's installed, double-click its icon to open the tool hub. If you can't find your app, perform a search in Windows for "QuickBooks Tool Hub" and select the program.
  4. Access your Company File Issues tab and use the Quick Fix my file and QuickBooks File Doctor tools to troubleshoot your company file. In the event you need additional assistance, choose File Dr Help.

If it continues not working, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able  to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

They can be reached while using QuickBooks:

  1. In your top menu bar, go to Help, then QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Enter a brief description of the issue in our Ask a question (or tell us what's wrong) field.
  4. Hit Continue.
  5. You'll be provided with a few support options. Select We’ll contact you for callbacks or Message Us to start an instant messaging session.

Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any questions. Have a great day!

Of course, I am in Windows 10 and the files are on a server, so that's a double whammy.  I'm trying to sort this all out while doing my work at the same time and it's a bit trying.  Thanks for your suggestion, which is my only hope at the moment; hopefully I'll figure things out and it will work!  I'll report back.

This has not worked.  I already ran the file doctor and have now done so again after updating to the latest release.

I have little hope for customer service as I have contacted them the way you suggest and spoken to three different agents.  They responded quickly, but sadly their level of knowledge is not very deep, and there seems to be no way to escalate an issue.  The last agent I spoke to said that Intuit was investigating this issue and that she would add me to the list so I'd be contacted when a solution is found, which is when I resorted to this thread.  I have to say, this is NOT A MINOR BUG, so I am really hoping that byao's solution works for me.

Well done, this worked!  Thanks byao!!!

Hopefully Intuit will fix this bug.  I am pretty certain it was caused by the last software update as I've never encountered this issue in 20 years.

I’m flabbergasted that this issue works or that the solutions was this convoluted but this is actually it.  I was having the same issue, I would click incorporate changes and nothing would happen.  I created a new user on the computer and made it an admin and voila it worked just fine! You’re an absolute life saver

Did you create a new user on the actual windows settings screen or was in a new user setup in QuickBooks?
