Clicking on Incorporate Accountant's Changes Does Nothing

NO.  ABSOLUTELY NOT.  We pay for software that works.  We do not pay for software that requires us to use complicated, back-door work-arounds.  I highly suggest you pass on everyone's frustration with this issue, because I foresee a class action in Intuit's future.

My client is having the same issue importing the changes I sent him for Desktop 2022.  We were on the phone with support for 45 minutes before finding out that QB is having issues with importing the accountant's copy changes in the 2022 version and that there is not a fix at this time.

I'm an end user having the exact same issue running QB Desktop Pro 2020 on a Windows 10 laptop (all with the most recent updates).  Unable to Incorporate Accountants Changes from the web due to "grayed out" non-functional button.  This is clearly a BUG on Intuits end, as the problem didn't occur until the latest update.

Here is an update to my situation: The problem still isn't fixed but yesterday I called Intuit support and they had me install QB2022 on my laptop that had no previous version of Quickbooks installed. I downloaded by company file to a flash drive and transferred a copy to the laptop. From there I was able to incorporate accountant's changes into the company file, I then downloaded the company file on the laptop to the flash drive and transferred it back to the desktop PC where I normally to my work and imported the QB file from the laptop. This is a temporary fix until I need to share the file with my accountant again. Then I presume I will have the same issue again.

Yesterday I once again called Intutit and we found a temporary work around. Fortunately I had a spare laptop available to me and was able to install QB 2022. I then dwonloaded my company file to a flash drive and installed it in the laptop. On the laptop I was able to incorporate accountant's changes normally. Once I incorporated the changes I downloaded the file with accountant's changes complete to a flash drive and installed it back to my original PC and things seem to be working normally for the moment. I presume that once I need to share my file with my account there is a high probabality that I will have the same problem incorporating his changes.

That sounds like a lot of work when my client pays over $1,000 a year for his Enterprise subscription.  They just need to fix the issue.

Has anybody found a solution that actually works? When I call support they give me the same options here and none of them work🤦🏼‍♀️

The suggestion of creating an admin user in Windows worked for me (see BYAO's post). You have to save a backup copy using your normal Windows user id and then import that backup copy to Quickbooks after signing in to the new admin user id. You should be able to incorporate the changes and then save that backup file. Go back to your normal Windows user id, open QuickBooks, click on open or Restore a Company, click Restore a backup copy, and select the backup file you created with the imported changes. A lot of work, but it finally allowed me to import changes I had been waiting months for!! I agree that it sucks to have to do this workaround, but I couldn't wait any longer for QuickBooks to fix this bug. I continue to use their instructions to report the bug daily in the hopes that they will eventually fix it.

Just called help line again. Jamal said that there is an ongoing investigation into the issue, but there is no indication of when the problem might be solved. Keep calling. And, Intuit people, we would all appreciate any help you can give in getting this resolved. The "create a new user" is not a solution!

So, I actually received an "update" from Intuit. "Engineers are aware of the issue and it is in the process of being prioritized/investigated. Although this is being actively looked at, we do not have an ETA for resolution at this time. Our next scheduled update will be: Fri Sep 02 16:00:00 GMT 2022." THAT IS RIDICULOUS! It's already been 6 weeks and it's going to take 3 more weeks to give us an "update"? I'm working on corporate tax returns that are due on September 15th. I want to give my changes back to my clients, not hold onto them until this fix is made at an indeterminable time, or jump through all kinds of hoops and workarounds. And that's on top of our other work that is piling up BECAUSE OF INTUIT'S ERROR! Keep calling them!

I've never been one to jump on the Intuit Dissatisfaction Bandwagon, but on this one, I fear I must.  I am having the same exact problem and have spent nearly 3 hours on the phone with support.  I've been a ProAdvisor and supporter of QB since it was first released on the market, not to mention the fact I used to work in IT, so it's not like I'm a complete idiot despite how tech support seems to view me.  Fact of the matter is that the button to "Incorporate Accountant's Changes" does not work, nor do the buttons to expand, collapse, or Save as PDF.  Install updates, run the File Doctor, login/logout, all you want, it won't fix the problem.  So, here I am having pissed away way too many hours trying to do the simplest thing of incorporating accountant changes into my client's books (which, is suppose to be some great time-saving feature, right Intuit?) with no resolution.  I surely expect Intuit to treat its advocates/ProAdvisors better than this.  Maybe it's time for me to retire.  I'm getting too old for this s*&t.

I wish you didn't have to experience all of that, Brenda20.

The engineering team is currently working on this ongoing issue about the Incorporate Accountant’s Changes button. Although this is actively looked at, we do not have a specific timeframe for the resolution. Rest assured that we'll notify you with the updates.

I've also added our Help Articles page for reference. There you can browse resources that can help you in completing your future tasks.

We appreciate your understanding on this matter. Please know that we're determined to get this resolved.

QuickBooks Team, you people are terrible.  For weeks now I have been trying to incorporate changes from my account to no avail.  You guys knew you were having issues with the file and continue to have QuickBooks users calling your support lines like fools.  Why don't you guys send out a mas email to ALL YOUR QUICKBOOKS USERS to let us know that you are having issues with the accountants copy botton. WE PAY TOP DOLLARS FOR THIS SOFTWARE AND WE DESERVE TO BE TREATED BETTER.   STOP HIDING BEHIND YOUR COMPUTER SCREENS AND LEVEL UP WITH US.

Clicking on Incorporate Accountant's Changes Does Nothing

I initially experienced this error back in June. I had over 20 pages of accountant's changes and it was the worst feeling when my Client was clicking the accept accountant's changes and nothing. No error, no message just nothing! We spend close to 3 hours on the phone/chat with support basically going in circles of uninstalling/reinstalling software, adding Microsoft admin users, installing software on a new computer, installing updates on the server, workstations... NOTHING WORKED.

I am incredibly embarrassed that as a "Pro-Advisor" I have no meaningful update for my Clients. My Clients spend thousands of dollars for this software. Not to mention the monthly fee I pay as a Pro-Advisor, which just increased 75% (I know not the forum for that chat!). Historically the "sell" was you can send me a copy of your file and I can do work without interrupting your workflow. Since this issue, my Clients are unable to work until I return the QBW file that they copy/paste into their directory.

Please explain the issue. Describe what caused this error and what are engineers doing to fix it? Upgrading to the next version is not an answer unless you are providing this free of charge. As a professional accountant I appreciate the years of productivity this software has allowed me. Clients... they don't care about accounting software, they don't see any value and basically tell me it's a scam to force them to upgrade and spend money. It is extremely difficult to disagree with them. I will check back Sept 2nd to hear the good news from this discussion topic the issue has been resolved for ALL desktop versions.

Current Status:

The unexpected behaviour you have experienced is anticipated to be resolved in an upcoming product update.

Thanks for getting back with the Community, JamesBCPA. I can certainly understand where you're coming from and have found some information which will help get your Incorporate Accountant's Changes button working again.

Intuit's Product Investigations team currently has an ongoing investigation (INV-74950) about this button not functioning properly for some subscribers. I've reviewed our notes on the investigation and found that Intuit's identified the reason it's occurring, and how it can be fixed manually for the time being.

Our Product Investigations team has confirmed that this issue only occurs when the Windows user account in-use has a space ( ) in its username. This can be fixed by changing the account's username so that it doesn't have a space ( ) in it. After making this change to your Windows user account, the Incorporate Accountant's Changes button will function properly in QuickBooks. If necessary, you can find detailed steps on how to change a Windows user account's username on Microsoft's website.

In the event you'd prefer to keep a space in your account's username, the next workaround would be to have your accounting professional enter their changes directly into your company file.

I can also confirm that Intuit's Product Development team is currently working on correcting this unexpected behavior in an upcoming product update.

If your books aren't set to update automatically, be sure to check regularly that you're using our latest release.

Here's how:

  1. Close the company file(s) and QuickBooks.
  2. Open your Windows Start menu.
  3. Enter and search for "QuickBooks Desktop".
  4. Right-click its icon and choose Run as administrator.
  5. From the No Company Open screen, go to your Help drop-down list and hit Update QuickBoosk Desktop.
  6. Access the Options tab.
  7. Pick Mark All, click Save.
  8. Go to your Update Now tab, then tick its Reset Update checkbox.
  9. Select Get Updates.

When the download finishes, close and reopen QuickBooks, then select Yes to install your update(s). Once the installation's complete, restart your computer. Now when you open QuickBooks again, it will be up-to-date with its latest release.

I've also included a couple detailed resources about working with updates and importing accountant changes which may come in handy moving forward:

I'll be here to help if there's any questions. Have an awesome Friday!

ZackE, this is the best information that any of us have received on this thread. It is still not a solution, but at least you've told us what the perceived issue is. By the way, I am the accountant professional. We can't be expected to be IT professionals for all of our QuickBooks clients and start changing all of their usernames, unless that is the absolute final answer. In that case, I'm going to have all of them call Intuit and use their "free" support they now have with the new subscription plans to make these changes. They shouldn't have to pay me to do it, and I'm certainly not doing it for free. I do pray that the engineers get this worked out sooner than September 23. Thanks, again, for the information. For individual QuickBooks users, this might just work, but I'm not about to start changing usernames on my clients' machines until I absolutely have to.

For what it's worth, I checked with our IT guys about switching my Windows User Name (by taking the space out), just to be sure there'd be no consequences on the server, and here is their response:

Geez good old Intuit/Quickbooks.  I'd advise against changing your username if possible as it may have other unintended consequences.

DougalDog, I'm going to be wary of things such as networked computers and other software that might be effected when I go to change that username. One of my colleagues asked if we want to think about changing our Windows usernames, and I'm not going to do that, because we have multiple software packages to consider. I want QuickBooks to fix this problem, themselves.

So, it appears that the engineers have figured it out and provided us with a fix. I have had one client successfully incorporate my changes. Thanks to the engineers for fixing this! Remember, you must update your QuickBooks software in order to receive the fix. Also, you must be using QuickBooks 2020 or later in order to continue receiving updates like this one.

Hello there, @JamesBCPA.

I'm glad that the issue about incorporating the accountant's changes is already resolved. I also appreciate you for recommending that users need to update their QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and use its newer version to have the latest features and fixes.

If there's anything else that you need or if you have any other questions feel free to post here anytime.

Thanks for being the best part of QuickBooks, and have a lovely day!

Good to hear as Intuit never contacted me despite me registering.  Ironically I just updated my last 5 files a couple of days ago using the work-around system.  I'll be sure to update the software right away (with some trepidation as that is what got me into hot water the last time, LOL!).  Thanks for alerting us to this development.
