Client using company file with adr file extension and not a qbw extension

I have a client who is has been running their company file that has a .adr file extension for years from what I'm told.   I discovered this when I was replacing the hard drive in her pc and I had to export and import the company file.

I worked with intuit support on this and they recommend sending the file in to be fixed but the client says they can't be without their quickbooks for a week. 

I'm just curious if the client can continue to use it with the .adr file extension and for how long before it breaks and what other options am I not thinking of that would allow her to keep using quickbooks while the file is being repaired.

I can see how important it is to work simultaneously on your QuickBooks file.

 

Fiat Lux - ASIA is correct. You can create a backup copy of the company files and then restore it with a different name. This way, it would be easier to identify which file you're currently working on.

 

Here's how to create a backup copy:

 

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Hover the Backup Company section.
  3. Select Create Local Backup.
  4. Click Local Backup and then Next.
  5. Select Browse and select where you want to save your backup company file.
  6. When ready, click OK and then OK.
  7. Select Save it now and enter a new File name.
  8. Click Save.
  9. Continue with the on-screen instructions.

 

Afterward, restore it. Let me guide you with these steps:

 

  1. From the File menu, select Open or Restore Company.
     
  2. Select Restore a backup copy and then Next.
  3. Select Local Backup and then Next.
  4. Select a folder to decide where to save your restored company file.
  5. Click Open.
