Complete data migration from QBP desktop to QBP online

Hello there, userusmananfas2020.

When converting your QuickBooks Desktop data to QuickBooks Online, there are some limitiations due to feature differences. You might want to review these articles before doing the process:

The steps to migrate your desktop data to online depends on the version you're using. You can see the different detailed steps in this article: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

For Questions 1 and 2, the balance should be moved if you have successfully convert your desktop data to online. Otherwise, we'll have to export and import the list manually.

  1. In QuickBooks Desktop, export the Chart of Account as an IIF file.
You can follow the steps in this article: Export, Import, and Edit IIF Files.
  2. Ope the IIF file in Excel and save it as CSV file.
  3. Make sure the column formats are correct before you import it in QuickBooks Online.
You can follow the detailed steps in this article: Move your Chart of Accounts to QuickBooks Online.
  4. Enter opening balances on the accounts.

For Question 3, you might need to enter the transactions and balances manually if they are not included in the conversion process. With that said, you can use this article for reference: How to Enter Outstanding Balances for Customers and Vendors.

In addition to that, I'd also recommend reaching out to your accountant to see if there are other options.

For Question 4, you'll need to pull up reports on both QuickBooks Desktop and Online to ensure that the books match. This is also stated under Step 3: Make sure your books match section of this article.

For Question 5, the Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online article I've mentioned above has the detailed instructions on how you can convert the data. Along with other links I've laid out earlier, that should keep you going with the conversion process.

You can also use this link as you get started with QuickBooks Online.

Complete data migration from QBP desktop to QBP online

@userusmananfas2020

My first concerns:

1. Do you wish to migrate from QB Desktop US to QB Online US?

2. Which QB Desktop year version do you have now?

3. Open your company file, hit f2 key, and notice the Total Targets. Make sure it is below 350 K or you have to condense your file prior to migrate it.

I'd be happy to address your concern today, anfas74.

Let's verify which country your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account is based (US or Global) using the domain or country code of the website extension.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under Your Company, select Accounts and Settings.
  3. Choose Company.
  4. Select Communications with Intuit.
  5. Click Marketing Preferences.

Once you open it, check the link and you can see the country code from there. In the sample screenshot, the GB stands for United Kingdom. In your case for Sri Lanka, it should be LK which is a Global version.

For target limits, it depends on what region does your QuickBooks belong. Since you only have 2940 targets, you're all good:

  • For the US: 350,000
  • For Canada: 350,000
  • For the UK and South Africa (ZA): 500,000

The following article is US based but the steps are applicable to all versions of QuickBooks.

To learn more about the limitations, please check out this article : What to expect when you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Once you're ready to start the conversion process, you can have this article handy for your reference: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

The Community is always open if you have other questions. I'll be around to help. Wishing you a great day ahead!
