How can I add an accountants copy-QBX to my current file that I have of QB's premier edition 2021?
If you are referring to how to merge the changes an accountant made, the only way to do that is if you're using the file from which you started the process - and you didn't cancel it.
If you mean that you're using a different file from the one where you started the process, there is no way to merge the changes the accountant made.
You need to open your QBX file on QBD 2021 Accountant and convert it to QBW file. You can still purchase the one time license for it if required.
Thank you for your response! It is a 2022 file. So I would need to purchase another QB's to be able to get that file?
It is 2022 accountants copy and i am currently running a 2021 premier edition. I was hoping to be able to add/convert it into my edition and setup as the separate co it is. I dont want to have to purchase another qbs file if not necessary?
Welcome back to the thread, Miram2022. I'll be providing details on how converting an accountant's copy works with a standard version of QuickBooks Desktop. Then, to ensure you're able to perform the process by following the steps below.
When converting Accountants copy to a regular company file or QuickBooks premier edition, you'll have to make sure that Accountants' Copy and QuickBooks Desktop versions are compatible.
Then, when performing the process of converting, you'll have to use the same year of QuickBooks Desktop to avoid any issues. However, you can still work on the Accountant's Copy using a different version as long as the gap between the versions is just one year. With this, you can convert the Accountants copy 2022 to your 2021 Premier edition without purchasing another one.
To start with, you'll have to secure a backup copy of your company file so you can restore your file in case you ever run into a problem with your data.
Once done, you can now begin following the steps below on how you can change the accountant’s copy to a regular company file in QuickBooks Desktop.
Here's how:
After that, you need to re-enter any changes you made to the original company file after creating the accountant’s copy. Then, you can no longer import an accountant’s changes (.QBY).

I'm not sure you can convert a QBX file created in QBD 2022 to a QBW file to open in your QBD 2021. You must purchase a one-time license for QBD 2022 Accountant to replace your Premier QBD 2021. I can share the trial code for QBD 2022 Accountant if needed.
Hi!
I cant replace my QBD premier as i am already working a company in it. I was hoping to avoid having to run 2 different versions of QBs. Yes, if you have a code to use for qbs accountant, i would be so grateful. Thank you!
Frankly, you have to prepare yourself with this scenario. Actually, QB Desktop Accountant = QB Desktop Premier + Accountant toolbox. Send a private message to me and you can ask the trial code.
hi,
I currently have the accountants copy as a QBX file which the prior CPA told me that it is just an accountants copy and is 2022. I do not see where I am able to convert it and add it as a separate company in my current premier version of 2021. Do I need to get a separate license to be able to get that file and be able to install it?
Thanks!
Hi,
I am picking this client up and it is the copy that his previous firm had. Based on responses, I am going to have to install another QBD file so that I can get access to what his previous firm sent me as it is a QBX file of an accountants QBD.
Can i set up my in house accountant as an external accountant and then how do I gain access to the accountants toolbox? We have quickbooks desktop premier for contractors 2021.
I don't want to have to purchase another file as another person mentioned- I'd be fine Paying for the accountants toolbox though I imagine this is not an option.
Besides that, what other benefits do I have setting up an in-house external user as external accountant? Is there any other way to get the accountants toolbox?
Accountant Toolbox feature is only available on Premier Accountant and Enterprise Accountant. You can still purchase the one time license for QB Desktop 2021 Premier Accountant and QB Desktop 2022 Premier Accountant.
