Buy nowIf my QBDT pro Plus 2022 script is set to expire in 12/2022.
I've been told that I own my business' data, I just won't have any access to it, once my script has expired. That's almost a full year of data that QB is holding h*stage.
For the past 10 years, I've sent my accountant office my yearly data backup for taxes.
If I create a backup BEFORE the script expires, will my accountant be able to access it for our taxes? Btw, they told me to upgrade to QBDT 2022 last year, when I still had QBDT 2021. Not great advice, but oh well.
My accountants office has their own QB accounts, so can they read our shop's QB data for our taxes?
Or is QB holding h*stage our business data for tax time as well?
Hello there,@amhaas65.
I'm here to clear things up for you.
When your QuickBooks Desktop expires, you can still access the file but you'll be unable to continue receiving the security updates and online services, such as the following:
It simply indicates that the program can only be used for manual tracking and storing business data. To know more about this, you can read through this article: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.
To confirm, yes, your accountant can access data for tax purposes by creating a backup file. You can also create an accountant copy. This lets your accountant review your books and continue working on your company file at the same time. Note that if you don't have the same version as your accountant, you can still work on it as long as the gap between the versions is just one year, and the accountant has a more recent version. Feel free to browse these resources for more information:
Additionally, I've included an article that offers general guidelines on how to import or export data with QuickBooks Desktop: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.
Please know that you can always count on me if you have additional queries regarding your company data in QuickBooks. Have a great day!
Make sure you have secured the following file formats before your license expires
*.QBW (working file)
*.QBB (backup file)
*.QBX (accountant file).
