Data access after expiration

I'm here to clear things up for you.

When your QuickBooks Desktop expires, you can still access the file but you'll be unable to continue receiving the security updates and online services, such as the following:

• QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Services
• Live Support
• Online Backup
• Online Banking

It simply indicates that the program can only be used for manual tracking and storing business data. To know more about this, you can read through this article: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy. 

To confirm, yes, your accountant can access data for tax purposes by creating a backup file.  You can also create an accountant copy. This lets your accountant review your books and continue working on your company file at the same time. Note that if you don't have the same version as your accountant, you can still work on it as long as the gap between the versions is just one year, and the accountant has a more recent version. *.QBW (working file)

*.QBB (backup file)
