Deleting Journal Entry lines with $0 value

A number of my journal entries have a final line item that is just an empty row with a $0 value. These seem to have appeared automatically. If I try to delete the line it just reappears every time. I wouldn't particularly care about this, but we are working on integrating Quickbooks with some custom software we use, and these lines are creating problems for that integration. Has anyone else had this issue? Has anyone been able to solve it?

Deleting Journal Entry lines with $0 value

Hello there, @lucasesfordroofi.

Internet files may have stacked a lot of data cache in your browser's memory storage. We can do a few troubleshooting steps to fix this. Then let's go ahead and delete journal entry lines.

Here's how:

  1. I'd suggest logging in using a private browser and open the journal entries. Open a supported browser and then match the following keyboard shortcuts.

    Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N

    Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P

    Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P

    Safari: Command + Shift + N

  2. When this worked using private browser mode, you can clear your main browser's cache. We have to remove or delete stored data for your browser to function well.
  3. You can also use other browsers like Microsoft Edge, Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox.

However, if this is a journal entry into a customer's payment & deposit, you can delete the journal entries & reenter them correctly.

If the issue persists, you can give us a call to report your concern and for us to further investigation. To do so:

  1. Go to the Help and then click Contact Us
  2. Enter a brief description of your concern and click Continue
  3. Click the phone icon under the We'll call you box.

Don't hesitate to place a comment if you need further assistance. I'm always here to help you! Have a good day!

Deleting Journal Entry lines with $0 value

What about if this is a part of a memorized transaction?

Deleting Journal Entry lines with $0 value

Hello, Angie.

You'll have to edit your memorized transaction's template to delete the line entry with $0 value. I'll gladly show you how to do this below.

When your recurring journal entry shows $0 value line items, you can edit its template anytime to correct its data. To do this, here's how:

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ or the Gear icon.
  2. Select Recurring transactions.
  3. Locate the recurring journal entry template and click Edit under the Action column.
  4. Find the line entries with $0 value and select the Delete icon.
  5. Once done, click the Save template button. 80.PNG

Also, since you use journal entries to record transactions, you'll want to customize a journal report to print multiple entries. You may want to check out this article to do this in QuickBooks Online (QBO): Print a journal entry report in QuickBooks Online.

Drop a comment below if you have other concerns about managing journal entries and memorized transactions in QBO. I'm always ready to help. Take care, Angie.

Deleting Journal Entry lines with $0 value

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Let me explain a bit more though.  I have a memorized journal entry for monthly allocations.  Some months, there may be fewer lines so my question is how can I delete the lines that are zero from within the journal entry screen.  I do not want to change it at the memorized template level.  Is there a way to do that?  I would prefer that there not be blank lines with one zero in the GL. If this isn't a possibility, would it be possible to include in the next update a right click option for deleting a line?  (Desktop version)
