Join nowI have QB Desktop 2024. I only have one user license. I want to use it myself (the only user) on two separate computers. I have followed all directions given in all of the help sections. I have mapped my drive, updated permissions, installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, run Database Manager, run Tool Doctor, and on and on for a solid two weeks and I cannot get the two to communicate. I have disabled anti virus and changed firewall permission. Is there anyone that can give me some advice other than spitting the directions on Multi User Hosting at me? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
TYIA
Good afternoon acromanager,
Welcome to the QuickBooks Community! I would love to assist here. But first, can you verify some information? Did you set the main computer as the hosting computer where the file is? The second computer should not be set to host. That way, you can access the company file on the second computer by giving QuickBooks the exact path once you have installed and run the Database Manager on the main.
Let me know. I will be here looking forward to your reply! See you in a few.
When I installed, I set up the main computer to host and use. I set up the other computer to use and not host. In the program I have selected Multi User hosting on both computers and gone into multi user mode.
I can see the importance of accessing your company file, acromanager.
Beforehand, may I know if you've received an error message when turning on the Multi-User mode? Any information and screenshots provided will help us resolve the problem.
Let's double-check the mapping of your server or Host computer as a network drive. Then, set up computers that'll access the files for multi-user mode and set the folder where the company file is stored.
After that, scan your folder using the Database Server Manager to access your file over the network.
Lastly, turn on hosting on your server computer:

Maybelle. I have performed all of these steps until I'm ready to cry. I stated in my original message that I have followed every direction multiple times. I am not getting any messages or errors, it just isn't sharing. Thank you anyway.
Maybelle, no error messages. I have performed these steps until I want to cry. Everything looks like it is supposed to but they just won't share. Thank you any.
I understand the challenges you're facing with the multi-user mode, @acromanager. I wish you didn't have to go through this.
Before anything else, let's check if your other computer meets the system requirements to run the QuickBooks Desktop 2024. This version requires a 64-bit Windows operating system and will not run on 32-bit.
Once you've verified your computer meets the system requirements, but the issue persists, I recommend contacting our technical support. Our designed team has all the specialized tools to check further and determine the root cause. If necessary, they can refer this to our engineering department for a more in-depth resolution.

Thank you. I bought the laptops specifically for QB so I made sure to check requirements prior. Yes I am using 64 bit. I guess I have no choice but to go down the customer support rabbit hole.
Thank you
You cannot run QB on both computers at the same time with your single user license.
You can install the trial version of QB Desktop Enterprise to isolate the problem.
I am not trying to run at the same time. I am the only user. One computer in one location and one in another. I want to be able to access from either with the same real time information. I want to be able to access from home office or company office without having to back up and restore each time I move.
Thank you for all of the help. I finally figured it out! I was in Multi User Mode instead of Single User Mode (since I only have 1 license) and I was trying to run the Database Server Manager on both computers instead of just the hosting computer. Once I changed those two settings I am now up and running and can see real time on both computers.
