Detailed SKU info

We have recently migrated to QBE from an online version.  We encoutered two issues:

1) QBE does not seem to track customer PO# in the sales orders beyond 11 characters.

2) We need to track each SKU's individual, inner pack, outer carton weight and dimensions.  QBE does not have enough fields for us to do that.

Wondering if other businesses are using another PIM or software for these needs?  If yes, any suggestions?  Our business is mostly wholesale but we also do dropship and B2C as well.

TIA!

Detailed SKU info

Greetings, PetMama.

While waiting for other users and Community champions to share their insights, let me share further information to help you accurately track your inventories.

In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), we can key in the Sales Order's P.O. NO. beyond 11 characters. However, for Purchase Orders, this option isn't currently available. Nevertheless, we would love to hear your ideas about having this functionality in the program, and I suggest submitting feedback. Your recommendation will be shared with our Product Development Team.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help option.
  2. Choose the Send Feedback Online option.
  3. Select the Product Suggestion option. A pop-up window displays.
  4. Enter your feedback suggestion.
  5. Click the Send Feedback button.

Regarding your concern with tracking your SKUs individually, we can create custom fields to personalize your transactions and add specific info for your products and services. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Lists menu and hit Item List.
  2. Double-click any item on the list to open and edit it.
  3. Choose Custom Fields. Then select Define Fields
  4. Name your custom field in the Label column. Names aren't case-sensitive.
  5. In the Use column, hit the checkbox to turn on the custom field.
  6. Click OK to save the custom field.

Afterward, we can apply these to your sales transactions by navigating to the Lists menu and choosing the Templates option. Then, we can click New to select a specific transaction and choose the Additional Customization button. After that, locate the Columns section. From there, we can tick the boxes for the information you want to display on your Screen or Print. Once done, you can save the changes by clicking the OK button. Lastly, we select this new template when creating your sales transaction to apply this personalization to your sales forms.

Moreover, you can browse these resources to help you track inventory stored at different sites or locations in QBDT:
