Hello there. we can perform the same troubleshooting steps to help you with your concern.

We can perform the basic troubleshooting steps to help fix your browser to work better and faster. It can also be caused by stored cookies and cache that block you from filing your 1099.

Here's how:

  1. Restart your browser.
  2. Try uploading your transactions in an incognito or private browser. You can use these keyboard shortcuts to launch a new private window:

Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
Safari: press Command + Shift + N

If it works, you can return to your regular browser and clear your browser's cache. Then you may see if it fixes the problem and gets started on the tasks at hand. However, if the incognito window didn't work, you can use another supported browser.

I've also added this article for more details about managing 1099: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Online.

Furthermore, if you want to print your 1099 forms in QBO you may refer to this article for future reference: Print your 1099 and 1096 forms.

Ping me if you have clarification or additional information about managing 1099 and other forms in QuickBooks Online. I'll be around. Take care!

I am having the same problem. Incognito browser didn't work. Started with a problem processing my payment to file the 1099's and then couldn't get the 1099's at all.

I'll provide some details about the error message you're getting, Leslie2557.

There's an ongoing issue about we couldn't fetch your 1099s filing error. Our engineers are working to get this fix as soon as possible. As a workaround, you can add contractor payments to accounts allowing you to e-file. This means other expense accounts connected to your 1099.

In the meantime, I recommend reaching out to our support team to add you as one to the list of affected users. This way, once it's fixed you'll receive an update.

To become more familiar with the 1099, check out this article for more information.

I'm all ears if you have any other concerns about QuickBooks Online Payroll. Have a nice day!

Thank you for keeping an eye on this post, Leslie2557.

At this moment, we do not have an ETA for resolution. However, if your account is added to the investigation (INV-81640), you'll receive updates via email once fixed.

If your account isn't on the list yet, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Payroll Team. They'll add your company and send updates.

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Go to Help (?), then Contact Us.
  3. Enter your concern, then select Let's talk.
  4. Choose a way to connect with us:
  • Start a chat with a support expert.
  • Get a callback from the next available expert.

Once fixed, you can continue creating and filing 1099s in QuickBooks.

I'm also adding this site to guide you through taxes, forms, filings, payroll, and other activities: 2022 QuickBooks year-end resources. Select a topic for answers to your most common payroll questions.

I hope this lessens your worries about the issue. Get back to me if you have other payroll concerns. I'm always available here in the Community forum to help you.

I need to also be added to the list of affected users.  I am unable to file for multiple clients.  This also means we missed out on the discounted pricing to e-file, which was $3.99/1099 and is now $4.99/1099, and may have to purchase paper copies and toner in order to get these out on time.  Hoping for an update on the fix... or an extension from the IRS!

It's great to have you here joining the thread, WBSLindsay. I've come to share details about the error message you've encountered when filing 1099s.

If you have subscribed to any QuickBooks Online Payroll or QuickBooks Contractor Payments, this would ideally help you file electronically. However, with the error you're having, I've checked my resources here and received some information.

Starting this year, QuickBooks Online (QBO) users that are filing for 1099s will not be able to file themselves. If you only have QBO and pay through your accountant, I'd suggest reaching out to your QBO accountant to complete the process.

Additionally, QBO users are still eligible to prepare their 1099s, and accountants will need to log in to finish the 1099 submissions. With this, you'll be able to file your forms successfully.

You can check out this article for more detailed information: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Online.

Moreover, I've added this link to further guide you when you've submitted your 1099s to the IRS: IRS Instructions. It also contains general instructions and information when filing.

If you have additional questions, feel free to leave them in the comments below. We'd be delighted to assist you. Take care!

Thanks for the information, but I'm not clear on what I can and can't do.  I have QBO but do NOT have accountants.  Can I e-file the 1099s through QBO?

I have exactly the same problem but have not received any updates to this case even though I was told I would. Deadline for submitting 1099s is the 27th so this needs to be fixed urgently. Please advise.

Thanks, Emma

I have Quickbooks Plus and have always been able to e-file 1099s previously but not this time. Please advise urgently how I can do this.

Hi there,

In many cases, I *AM* the accountant trying to file. These are clients who subscribe monthly to QBO at varying levels.  The functionality to file 1099s appears to be available - there are links and buttons and navigation to click on indicating it is possible are all visible.  I am able to click through all of the process screens and end up at the error message that says "SOMETHING NOT RIGHT."  (Yes, the error says "something" and not "something's.)

It sounds like you are saying this bug is not a known bug, but rather an intentional change in access. And that no users will be able to e-file 1099s this year using QBO.  Is that correct?  My scenario is

What do you mean by "If you only have QBO and pay through your accountant"?

My scenario is this: I am set up as an "accountant" user for some clients, an "admin" for some, and just an all-access "user" for others.  I am getting this error for all three types of clients.

If you're saying that users cannot e-file 1099s using QBO anymore, then that is a major problem for millions of users.

Hey there, @emma

Thanks for following the thread and sharing your concerns.

Our investigation (INV- 81640) has been marked as closed and resolved by our Engineering Team. Since you're still encountering this error message, I recommend clearing your browser's cache. Web browsers collect cache to save time when loading repetitive data and images. Over time these files can become outdated and corrupted, causing issues like error messages when e-filing 1099s.

However, if clearing the cache doesn't seem to work, you'll need to contact our Technical Support Team for further review. Our agents can review your account in a secure environment and investigate this matter accordingly.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions. Have a good one!

I have done everything you have suggested regarding clearing the cache etc which makes no difference. When I made a support call earlier today, I was not told that this case had been closed... I was told that I would be kept updated. I have been attached to this case now for 1 week and  have received no updates. Support did not seem to understand the problem or be able to help.

I just got off the phone with tech support. This isn't a bug, and it isn't going to be fixed.  They have discontinued the per-form e-file service.  Your options are to use the print & mail subscription which starts at $59, or subscribe to the $15/month contractor/e-file service.  I was told you could always subscribe for one month, file your 1099s, then cancel the subscription, and repeat next year.  For my clients who were going to e-file 1 single 1099 for $3.99 last week, paying $15 for this service is unreasonable.

Terminating the e-file service in the middle of 1099 season is deplorable.  I'm a Pro Advisor and did not receive any notification of this happening.

What's worse, is there is no way to print 1099s directly out of QuickBooks Online, so there is really no solution here other than to subscribe to their service.  If you still have a copy of a desktop version, you might be able to set up a skeleton company, manually enter the totals for each vendor, and print them through that.

Other than that, everyone is basically out of luck.

Please be kind to the messengers here - the Intuit employees that you talk to in customer service have no control over this process, and are having to tell millions of frustrated customers that they can't e-file anymore.

Received error when trying to file 1099s:

“You currently don’t have permissions to perform this action. Please contact your QB Administrator.”

What does this mean?

WBSLindsay - I was so excited by your response, but when I went to try this it still didn't work for me.

Is this working for you across various clients?

Thank you.

Another possible work around.  It didn't work for me either (got the same error message as above) but when my boss tried it as an admin he didn't have any problems.  He was able to successfully "e-file only".
