i can't make any sense of the receipt workflow.
i have two scenarios.
1. bank transactions have been downloaded, i then went and uploaded receipts via the email functionality. a few matched but a few did not. there doesn't seem to be a clear way to pick the transaction that i've already confirmed. (if i add the same data that i have on the transaction, will that match? )
2. i have some expenses i've spent with personal money, that i've added with journal entries, but the receipts never match to those.
what workflows can i do to make these work?
i don't understand why there isn't some way to easily just associate them to each other.
Welcome to the Community,@mrhargro.
Thank you for reaching out to us. Let me help you understand the receipt workflow.
There are few ways you'll need to do to completely add a receipt in QuickBooks Online.
For additional reference, you can refer to this article: capture and categorize expense receipts and bills in QuickBooks Online. This contains the rest of the receipt workflow in QBO. You can maximize the three links in the article, and proceed to Step 2 to complete the banking part of it.
Please let me know if I can be of any additional help. Have a nice day and keep safe!
why are quickbooks employees in the community? i would be reaching out to quickbooks if they could answer my questions, but i usually get replies like this. they don't listen and then barf up an article that doesn't answer the question. horrible experience thus far getting questions answered.
I've read your original post, @mrhargro.
I want to ensure you'll be able to match your receipts and banking transactions accordingly.
You must add at least the receipts or the banking transactions to QuickBooks so you can match your records.
Here's how to add transactions from the Banking page:
For your receipts, switch to the Receipts tab, and review your receipts from there.
With your journal entries, you can add the receipts as attachments.
Once done, here's how you can categorize, review, or match receipts and transactions in QuickBooks Online.
Moreover, you can skim through the topics from our help articles for additional hints about QuickBooks and bank feeds.

I appreciate your prompt reply, @mrhargro.
Allow me to add some information about uploading receipts in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Once you've uploaded your receipts to your account, the system automatically looks for a match. If you see a Match in the Action column from the Receipts tab, it means QuickBooks thinks it matches a transaction you already recorded.
Select Match to connect it and upload it to the transaction. There, you can see the list of transactions if there are more than one that matches the receipts. For guidance, you can refer to the steps provided by my colleague Angelyn_T above in attaching your receipts to a transaction.
