Error 213

During a rebuild, I received error 213 (548) Verify name list. Duplicate name encountered.

I know how to fix the error, but is there a way to fix it without having to go to each name (they're all the same) and changing them? Will take FOREVER.

Thanks!

Error 213

Hello there, @mlbiscuits.

Thank you for posting in the Community. I'd be happy to help share some information about the error Verify list. Duplicate name you encountered when rebuilding data.

In Quickbooks, the display name is used as a unique identifier across Customer, Employee, and other lists. As such, if two or more names in your lists are the same or which already exists, it will give you an error. Currently, you need to change at least one character, merge or delete them to resolve the duplicate.

The following article contains additional information about this, as well as steps finding and editing the duplicate names: QBWin.log: Verify list. Duplicate name encountered.

If you need to reach out for more help, our phone agents will be able to assist you in getting this resolved.

Here's how you can reach them:

  1. Go to https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
  2. At the top right, select your QuickBooks for Windows version.
  3. Select a topic.
  4. Click on the Get Phone Number button.

That should take care of it.

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions about Error 213. I'm still here for you if you need further assistance. Have a good one.

Error 213

Hi there, Janice.

Thanks for joining this conversation. Allow me to chime in and help fix the error you're getting in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

The Error 213 is caused by a duplicate entry in QBWin.log. This can be fixed by running the built-in Rebuild and Verify tools in QBDT. This automatically fixes minor company file data issues. Here's how to do it:

  1. In QBDT, go to the File menu, then hover over Utilities and select Rebuild Data.
  2. On the QuickBooks Information window, select OK. Follow the onscreen steps to save a backup.
  3. Let the tool repair your file. It may take some time.
  4. When the tool finishes, tick OK.
  5. Repeat the step 1 and choose Verify Data this time.
  6. Let the tool check your file for data issues.

For more information about the process, check out this article: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

If rebuilding doesn't work, we'll need to manually locate and edit the list to remove the duplicate entries using the QBWin.log file. You can refer to this article for the detailed steps on how to do it: QBWin.log: Verify list. Duplicate name encountered.
