Excel Budget Import won't upload

Hi there,

I am trying to upload an excel budget into QBO Advanced. I downloaded the template, spent a few hours pasting everything into it, and now I need to upload. I saved the filled in template as a .csv and selected it and clicked upload. It loads for hours but never loads. I've tried 4 times between yesterday and today (even left it loading overnight) and it just keeps loading. QB Support is closed until Monday. If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it.

Excel Budget Import won't upload

I appreciate your effort and time to get the Excel budget template uploaded to QuickBooks Online (QBO) Advanced, @KatieS2. I assure you that I've got the suggestions you need to resolve this.

Here are the two possible reasons you're unable to upload your budget template since the system keeps loading:

  • The template isn't formatted correctly. There are columns or rows added to it.
  • The browser's stored cache is full.

First, let's make sure the formatting of the template is correct. We use your chart of accounts and fiscal year months to format it. Just enter your budget for each account monthly. You'll have to use the .csv file we've provided for you. Also, please ensure there are no columns or rows added to it. If you have more accounts to appear on the template, I'd first suggest adding them to the Chart of Accounts menu.

Second, let's sign in to your QuickBooks account through an incognito window. It doesn't store data in the cache. Thus, it's a great way to isolate this issue. Here are the keyboard shortcuts depending on the browser you're using:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + P
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N

Once logged in, reupload the template from the Import Budget page. If it works, let's clear the cache of your regular browser. It helps remove the stored cache on the browser so it'll function efficiently.

If private browsing doesn't work, I'd suggest using different browsers. They will provide you the best and most secure experience with QuickBooks. For more details, see this article's Supported browsers section: System Requirements For QBO

However, if the issue persists, the budget template may be damaged. Let's delete and recreate it so you can start fresh. That way, you'll be able to re-import it into the program.

I recommend running the Budget Overview report to view the summaries of your budgets by account. You can also pull up the Budgets vs. Actuals report. It lets you see the comparison between your actual income and expenses and your budgeted amounts. It also helps you determine how much you're under or over budget. Just go to the Reports menu. Then, locate them using the Search box or going to the Business overview section. I've attached a screenshot below for your visual reference.

I'll be right here to help if you need further assistance. Take care always, @KatieS2.
