I want to have the ability to exclude subclasses from a P&L Report by class and simply see the Totals for the Parent Class (that includes the amounts of the subs). I want to select Parent classes without selecting sub classes and see the entire total. I do not want to select all classes and export into Excel and then hide all the subclasses to see the parent class total.
Is there another QB product version that has this available? It seems that I was able to pull this type of report in thr 2016 version.
I have contacted support with no help. Just sending me the link about classes.
I have sent Feedback.
Help is much appreciated. Thank you.
Thanks for reaching out, @kimkelly.
Filtering to show only parent classes in the Profit & Loss by Class report is super easy and only takes a few moments. Check it out:
That's it! Your Profit and Loss will now only show parent classes. If you'd like to fully master the customization of reports, you can check out this awesome article.

Thank you Michael but I want the Parent Class to show the totals of all the subclasses without selecting or showing them in the P & L report. Generally, for me the Parent class is like a Book and the subclasses are the chapters.
I want to select Grounds as the Parent Class and then the subs would automatically be included, that is all the different job sites. When I run the report to see how much Grounds has made overall, I want to select Grounds and have the inclusive total without having to select and show each and every jobsite (subs that could number over 20 columns). Just the grand total for All Grounds.
I feel like I was able to do this prior to upgrading to 2019.
If there is another product that will do this, I'm willing to purchase outside of QBOnline.
Hello kimkelly,
You can run each parent class report to show the total amount of the subclasses. I’ll show you how:
For your future reference, you can check this article about creating memorized reports: Create, access, and modify memorized reports.

I'll use the Term Janitorial for my Parent class. I have several job sites under it as sub-classes. When I choose just the Parent Janitorial, nothing comes up.
It's good to have you back here, kimkelly.
Let me share with you possible reasons for this.
It could be that there are no transactions associated with this account. You may take into consideration that QuickBooks depends on the activities you've created. The only transactions you've entered are the once who will show on the reports.
Incorrect dates on the report could also be the cause of the issue. You'll want to verify if these could be the reasons why no transactions showing on your report.
I'm including an article that will help in reconciling your accounts for future reference: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.
Please let me know if you need more help with managing your QuickBooks account. I'll be sure to help you out.
The answer is to upgrade to QB 2020. Collapsing rows and columns in the P&L by class works. I had a couple local bookkeepers tell me about. Not one person from the QB support team or my calls to them even offered this information.
So, I'm one happy camper now.
The answer is upgrading to QB 2020. Collapse rows and columns in the P&L by class is there! Local bookkeepers told me about this. No one from my calls to support suggested that a newer version from my 2019 version would work. It does!
Not sure if you found a fix for this but I ran the customized report suggested above and clicked on customize then changed display columns by: I chose income statement and also changed the display rows by class. This allowed me to collapse the report (at the top of the report toolbar) and I now have totals by parent class and can click on each one to expand if I want to see the detail. I can now customize the Income/expense accounts to those relevant to this report analysis. But,
My issue now is that I need the quantities sold and when I add the quantity it doesn't give me the total quantity by parent class - I have to expand and manually add them :( Does any have a suggestion for this?
Hi KarenAnn,
The total quantity won’t show in the report if they aren't directly linked to their respective items. The only way to show this detail is to expand the report and add it manually.
You can also export the report to MS Excel to modify it based on your class reporting needs. I'll show you the steps:
Please refer to these articles for more information about exporting reports:
I’ve also added a link that contains basic information about running a report and its features: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

I need a report that shows all expenses but excludes two classes. Can that be done?
Hello there, Blopes.
You can run the Transaction List by Vendor report and customize it. Then, export it to Excel to get the data you need.
Here's how:
