Exporting data from 2018 QBB file into QuickBooks Online

Aloha. I have a customer currently running QB Online. The oldest records in their QBO system date to mid-year 2018, they were running QB Desktop Windows before that. They now have an urgent need to get all data from 2018 into their QBO. They have .QBB files from that time. But, the online articles I've read state you can only do this during the first 60 days after you open your online account and there is no way around that limitation.

So, what are the possibilities here...?

- Can they install the latest QB Desktop on a trial basis just to extract the data from the QBB files and somehow import that data into QBO?

- Or can they install Desktop, restore the backup file and then export the data from QBO and import into Desktop?

Any ideas / suggestions greatly appreciated. If it makes a difference, they are on Windows.

Mahalo,

Harry Z

To clarify your information:

1. QB Desktop data to migrate: Jan 1, 2018 - June 30, 2018 ?

2. Existing QB Online data: July 1, 2018 - date ?

You can utilize a migration tool. i.e TPExporter for Desktop and TPImporter for Online

https://transactionpro.grsm.io/qbo

Another option, purchase a 3rd party migration service.

Thanks for checking in with us, Haole Boy.

We can only move a company file within 60 days after signing up to QuickBooks Online (QBO). To learn more about this one, check out the Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online article.

In QuickBooks Desktop, we can upgrade a company file in a 3-year interval at the most. In your case, you can upgrade the company file to the 2019 version first, then proceed to the 2021 version. Don't forget to run the Verify and Rebuild Data tools in between upgrades to ensure the integrity of your company file. We can get your QBDT trial versions from this page: QuickBooks Desktop Downloads & Updates.

When everything's ready, refer to the Upgrade your company files after switching to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop article and scroll down to Step 3 for a walk-through on how you can upgrade your company file. Then, you can import your lists (vendors, customers, inventory, and chart of accounts) to QBO. This allows you to move your existing lists to QBO from QuickBooks Desktop or another Online company. This saves you from having to set up the items from your lists one by one. For the steps and details, check out the Move your lists to QuickBooks Online article.

Feel free to visit our Import your data page for more insights about importing your data into your program.

I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you, please let me know how it goes or if you have any other issues or concerns. Just leave a comment below and I'll get back to you. Take care always.
