Exporting transactions from Quickbooks Self-Employed as a csv file

I have Quickbooks Self Employed and in the past I have easily been able to download my transactions as a csv file. Now when I hit the export button it opens in a new browser window in an unusable format. Is this no longer a feature or is something broken?

Exporting transactions from Quickbooks Self-Employed as a csv file

You can still download, import, and export transactions via CSV file in QuickBooks Self-Employed, @laustin. Since you're unable to do this, I've got some troubleshooting steps to help you.

I'd like to know if you've encountered any error messages when exporting transactions via CSV file. If so, please add them below. This will help us check if there are any reported issues specific to this concern.

To start, use a private browser to access your QuickBooks account. This doesn't retain local files, so this helps rule out the possibility of a webpage issue. Use these keyboard shortcuts according to the browser you're using:

  • For Firefox, press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N.

After that, go to the Transactions tab and select the Export icon. Check to see if the csv file appears. If this works, you’ll need to clear the browser's cache. By doing this, it’ll remove the built-up cache in your default browser, so you can start with a clean slate. You can also use other supported browsers as alternatives.

If you still get the same result after performing the suggested steps above, you can contact our Support Team. This allows us to investigate the issue further and provide you with a solution. Just take note of our support hours so we can address your concerns on time: Contact QuickBooks Self-Employed Support.

Once done, you can review the transactions and read about Schedule C and expense categories. This way, we can ensure that your self-employed income and expenses are categorized and reported correctly.

There is no "Export" icon. Where is this Export icon at?

Exporting transactions from Quickbooks Self-Employed as a csv file

Thanks for joining the thread, @jacfae. I'm here to guide you to where the export icon is located.

With the new update, the export icon was changed to download. Once you click the download button, which is located beside the search transaction box, it will be downloaded into an Excel file.

See this screenshot below for your reference.

Exporting transactions from Quickbooks Self-Employed as a csv file

I have tried what you suggested and it only downloads as a pdf, even in a private window. The screen shots you can't see. This should not be complicated to do. Please advise how to fix as all your help articles are for the older version.

Kindly send us screenshots of your data export process. This will enable me to provide appropriate instructions, as you should be able to export in CSV file format using the steps below:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu.
  2. Select the Exports icon to save the CSV file.

In the meantime, you could use another device to log in to QBSE and export again. It's possible that the computer auto-exports files in PDF.

Furthermore, if you're referring to exporting reports from QuickBooks Self-Employed, please know that it will only download as a PDF file.
