IE11 has had security issues for years and MSFT abandoned it for EDGE going now 7 years, the fact that QB includes financial services means that someone in the risk and compliance division at QB was asleep at the wheel. QB team better have a plan to extend a free license to for the QB2022 version for all current users of QB2020 and QB2021. They can't blame this on windows 11 because IE11 is literally on its the last gasp.
I swear, QB/Intuit support won't answer the real question because they are backpedaling so hard right now. You can bandage this all you want QB Support, but the fact of the matter is this. Microsoft is officially casting off it's Internet Explorer browser. The only thing left will be the API, which Microsoft Edge is already programmed to take control of.
Microsoft is completely killing IE as a software, and removing it from Operating systems through Windows Update, staring June 15th, 2022. This means you have about 7 months to get your proverbial stuff together and use the CERTIFIED API and stop using the browser functions within your software. MS announced IE11's demise all the way back in 2010. You've had 12 years ( TWELVE ) to get this figured out. Do I sound Condescending? Upset? Maybe a little... Perturbed? You bet your sweet behind I do. I've been supporting this poor excuse for software for the better part of 3 decades. Every single release? Same stupid idiotic problems. What's it mostly have to deal with? You guessed it, the IE API and the vast systemic problems that it brings with it.
But I guess this too will go right under the noses of QB support, and cast off as easily as any other comment thread. We'll just sweep it under the rug with all of the IE API issues.

Thanks for this! I've been trying to figure it out all day... Microsoft's website was no help. Your solution worked perfectly!
Thank you. I went to the link and downloaded Explorer again. It did not open right up and I had to hunt for it but I was finally able to get it to open. Eureka, QB Desktop loaded and opened without issue. I have temporarily halted Windows updates as I fear that they will try to remove Explorer (again). This should allow me enough time to close out my 2021 books... and then look for a better accounting software program that doesn't rely on antiquated software.
Thanks for your response. Obviously, by not fixing this problem, Intuit is trying to force exactly that. I do not wish to make mining my data easier for Intuit, nor to be dead in the water if I am in a place with marginal internet.
As to switching to another package, I would be all for that. Do you have a suggestion for another desktop package that has good functionality for NPOs?
Thanks again for your time and for sharing your experience.
This is part of the solution. Here is what worked for me on Windows 10 (PC)
As suggested in the earlier reply, Go to Settings / Apps/
You will not see a choice for optional features anymore, so type it into the search bar
It should display the optional features you have installed. You need to add Internet Explorer 11, so click "+Add". Microsoft will not offer you Internet Explorer as an option, so type it into the search bar. Click it and it will add it to the optional features. This will allow QB to open.
If you want the updates to work, you need to take one more step. Go back to the start menu. You will not see Internet Explorer (even though you just installed it.) Type it into the search bar. Microsoft really does not want you to use it, so they will open a couple of windows of Edge on top of the IE window. Take your time and close them. When you get to IE go to the settings/ options / security. Select the "Sites" tab. Scroll down to the checkbox that requires only one site at a time (specific http:// address). UNcheck it. Go back up to the dialogue box and enter two lines:
*.quickbooks.com
*.intuit.com
save and now you are really finished and back to QB functionality. It is working fine with my QB2020. Am now moving my instance of QB2019, but do not anticipate any problems
KMagilavy -- **THANKS!!** After literally months trying to reinstall IE11, your solution worked. I can now go back to using my primary office computer for bookkeeping instead of my secondary editing computer. Can't tell you how relieved I am! Whew!
Microsoft has recently blocked the ability to Install IE11 somewhere in the latest security updates. I have not narrowed down witch KB is the culprit, only that it occurs on multiple Win 10 systems with the latest build and updates.
As I type this I am configuring my client's Windows server to function as a workstation just so they can get their payroll done.
You cannot install IE11 it via executable, OG control panel windows features, Or the new Windows 10 Settings add remove windows features, or even via power-shell. The Ball is in Intuit's court now but they seem too busy pointing fingers to realize this is a larger issue.
Microsoft is not going to help anyone with a retired product, they barely help with their active ones. What needs to happen is QuickBooks moves away from this dependency on IE and move to Edge. Until then those like me are screwed, or have to restore / remove security patches and compromise themselves in the process.
Spent 3 hours explaining this to Intuit support last night.
Unfortunately this is no longer an option for the latest updates. Microsoft has gimped the optional features installation for IE11, they all fail to install now. Even the manual executable installer for IE11 claims to install, the folder structure is there, but the IE executables are missing.
Are you using 21H1 or 21H2? Yesterday we can still able to install a new license for QBD 2021 on 21H1 without any issue. We don't recommend any of our clients to update to 21H2 or upgrade to Win 11 at the moment.
The issue occurs in 21H2, rather IE is disabled with one of the updates in 21H2
I am trying to help another QB user fix her issue with IE., she has followed all the steps and IE will still not turning on. Has anyone else had an issue with this happening? Any help would be appreciated. This is very frustrating. We have both tried different things to solve the issue and it is just not happening.
TIA

Some people have been having this issue for a while, but I just started having it a few days ago and have done A LOT of research and tried many things to try to fix it. I finally found instructions in Microsoft forums to get IE back on my computer that worked! I have posted instruction below, and I hope it helps others who are having this same aggravating problem!
If IE is completely gone from your computer, try this.
Click on Start then Settings. Go to Apps | Apps and Features. If you don't see Internet Explorer, click on Manage Optional Features then Add A Feature. You should be able to add or enable it. Restart your computer when done so it takes effect.

hello. did you finally find a solution to not being able to add IE ? I am helping someone with the same isuue now.
Hey guy.
You might want to read a little beyond the headlines before you go spouting your mouth off.
The links you provided to download IE11 are for Windows 7.
Furthermore, Google searches for IE11, which you idiotically assumed were all so easy and legit, does not produce anything that will actually install an IE11 executable on your machine.
I am a systems administrator and know my way around a computer and the Internet, and what you posted is utter bullcrap.
iI there any official plan as to what Intuit will do for desktop customers with perpetual licenses who are still in their support periods? Or is this going to be another hammer to force people to pay for subscriptions they don't want?
Let me make it up to you, @IEisDead.
You can send and discuss this as a request to our product developer via feedback. I'll show you how.
I'm adding this article to keep your browser up-to-date while waiting for the coming updates: Upgrade Internet Explorer to open QuickBooks Desktop.
If you have any other related concerns with the QuickBooks browser, please let me know in the comments below. I'll be here to answer all of them. Take care and stay safe!

Half of our team is still running QBD 2013 and 2017-2021 on Win 10 20H2 to support our clients. We still recommend new users to buy QBD 2021 with a one-time license.
What’s the point of buying a one-time license for a program utilizing a non-supported web browser? Suggest they switch to QB Online before their desktop version is rendered useless as you must have desktop to even switch to online. If they don’t they could lose everything if they don’t have a backup source of desktop from which to upload it.
For outdated QBD versions, we should rely on IE mode later. We'll see what Intuit will do in June 2022. Will they also rely on IE mode to run the supported versions (2020-2022) or release patches to support Edge. It will be the same time whether QBD supports Win 11 natively or not.

Hi ' I read all the post here and none of the solutions works on my PC.
what can I do to fix the problem
Please write a bookkeeping accounting software program that is in no way affiliated with Intuit and do not outsource any of it outside of the American borders and that especially includes customer service. You'd be a millionaire.
You have to hire an IT guy to help you install IE 11 and pay for their service while it works. Some of our clients had to choose this route as the last resort.
IAre you referencing IE Mode in Edge?
That won't work. It doesn't work now.
See this post above- QB doesn't use the normal IE from the OS exactly- I suspect if they did then the Edge IE Mode workaround would be fine. For whatever reason and against best practices they embedded part of the busted IE in thier app so it cannot work once IE is removed from the system.
It's potentially only a matter of time till MS forcibly removes IE from machines in a security patch to avoid future liability. They've already forcibly removed it from Win 11 and the latest version of Win 10. I'd hate to wake up on June 16th and MS removed IE and now my QB install with decades of financial data is no longer accessible.
Intuit needs to make a statement publically of what the plan is and let us know. I'm not going to wait till June 16 to find out what happens. The longer they wait the more I look at alterative systems. Even if the plan is "sorry no desktop versions of QB will work after June 15th you need to buy a subscription before then" - they should let us know in advance
My problem is on my bank's side. I have IE installed but my bank won't let me connect with their site to download transactions with it. It seems everyone in the world wants IE to go away except QB. What gives?
