3 hours with tech support including wait times and I still no fix for the error message to upgrade to Internet Explorer 11 on QB 2021 desktop. Dear QB: IE 11 is no more. MS replaced it with Edge with an option to enable IE 11 within Edge. Did that. Edge is set as my default browser. Did that. Bought a $125 90-day tech support plan. Tech support installed the latest web patch and ran something within the tool hub. Still no fix. Lost tech support connection after computer restart required to activate the web patch and the tool hub. Called back in for a senior tech and waited an hour on the phone then got disconnected without connecting with level 2 tech support. Why do we keep patronizing companies that take our money and leave us out here with software that's no better than a doorstop. Someone, please tell me what to do next to get this problem fixed. Shame on you Intuit. I'm beyond exasperated.
Which Windows OS do you run?
I can still run QBD 2021 Premier on Win 10 Home 21H2 19044 with enabled IE11. I'm holding off on upgrading to the 22H2 to avoid any issues.
Thank you so much! This worked for me and with any luck will continue to.
Seems MS wormed their way into my computer and I just received the IE death knell a couple of days ago (7/2023). I tried the solution as posted, however, the "add" and "enable" buttons are no longer visible, only "disable" shows. Reg Edit appears to be gone as well. My computer guru spent a couple of hours today trying to fix it and failed. If he can't figure a way to fix it, I don't think anyone can. How thoughtful of MS to leave me completely locked out of 15 years of personal financial information. I don't even use IE, it's just there to make my QB program work so I can track my grocery, utility, and cat food expenses. Anyone up for a class action????
Microsoft told you 15 years ago that IE was being retired. PERIOD. That is NOT microsoft's fault, but QB still using it even today packed under "their own custom browser" is complete BS.
You want to talk class action when I can guarantee 90% of the people here don't have cars as old as IE, let alone the better part of the decade that MS gave you to do it differently. You literally don't have a leg to stand on.
QB is garbage, their support is awful, and getting support is akin to the 7th circle of hell. As someone who has supported this vast garbage heap (seriously, why can't QB use more than 1 processor thread?) for over 2 decades, you're pointing the finger at the wrong subject of your disappointment.
Tried all this, but when I got to the last step there were no options to add explorer.
Click on Start then Settings. Go to Apps | Apps and Features. If you don't see Internet Explorer, click on Manage Optional Features then Add A Feature. You should be able to add or enable it. Restart your computer when done so it takes effect.
Thanks for your efforts in performing the steps provided by my colleague, Areaman. I'll share some information on why you have no option to add Explorer to your desktop.
Although Microsoft no longer supports Internet Explorer (IE), it's still required for QuickBooks to properly function. Ensure that your QBDT is updated to the latest release.
If you're using Windows 10 or 11, here's how to enable IE in Microsoft Edge.
If the issue persists, I'd suggest reaching out to Microsoft Support.
I'm adding again this article to learn more about the new custom internal browser: Use our built-in browser in QuickBooks Desktop.
Furthermore, you can visit these links to manage your data in QBDT:
Return to this thread if you need further assistance with adding an explorer. I'd be happy to help you. Take care.
Thanks for trying, but it didn't work. Still cannot open Quickbooks and getting same Warning. Also... how do you expect us to update our software if we cannot open it? The IE mode was set to "Allow" when I got there following your suggested steps. Looking through the web, I am not the only QuickBooks user having this same problem. (complete understatement) I have not been able to use my business QuickBooks software now for approx. 3 weeks and I don't think I need to tell you how much that sucks. Please get a fix for this problem soon.
Thanks for giving those steps a try and letting us know the outcome, Areaman.
Can you tell us what version of QuickBooks you're using? As you may be aware, Microsoft discontinued support for Internet Explorer last June 2022. They've also permanently disabled IE through a Microsoft Edge update on certain versions of Windows OS.
You can read more details about this here:
Because of this, QuickBooks Desktop began to use our new custom browser to replace IE. This custom browser will only be available in QuickBooks Desktop Pro/Premier/Enterprise/Accountant 2020, 2021, and 2022 versions.
If you're using QuickBooks 2019 or older, you'll want to consider moving to QuickBooks Online or upgrading to the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop.

I guess I'm done with Intuit then. I've been using QuickBooks Pro 2009 since... 2009. Never had any issues I couldn't resolve. This is quite different. A completely helpless feeling. The software will not even allow me to re-install because I enter in the only license and product numbers given to us when we purchased the product. I will never buy any Intuit product again (image removed).
"Old and Older" Windows 10 Home & QuickBooks Accounting Pro 2009. Conclusion: SOL Right after the most recent Microsoft update, all saved emails and most of my email addresses were deleted also. Hasn't been a very good time for me lately. Thank you for asking... anyway. I think I'll pull the typewriter out of the closet, dust it off, and start creating invoices. (^__^)
I tried to re-install, but the license and product numbers won't work. They seem to only work once.
You should contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA for advise.
Same here. I cannot believe that a company of this size believes this is acceptable or lacks the competency to develop products with proper vision and foresight as to avoid painting themselves into a corner then going to sleep at the wheel for better than a decade.
Come on Intuit, get a clue. This is embarrassing and frustrating.
Any specific concern?
