I've been searching for a solution for weeks. Asked QuickBooks "Support" and they were of no help at all.
You're advice was priceless.
Internet Explorer takes Quick Books Pro Down!
IE was deleted from my WIN 10 PC. No, it is not hiding somewhere to be restored by any of the fixes suggested.
I was able to download IE 11 from my cloud backup Carbonite but there is no way to install it.
This means Quick books and its files are in limbo. Intuit needs to provide the fix for this.
Hello there, @tvmediapro2016.
I’ll chime in on this thread and share some information about using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) with Internet Explorer (IE).
Since Microsoft no longer supports this started last June 15, 2022. The current default browser has changed from Internet Explorer 11 to our built-in browser in QuickBooks. From June 10, 2022, all supported versions of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) will begin to use our new custom browser. All you have to do is update to the latest release.
Furthermore, please take note that IE is still required for QuickBooks to work properly. Though, this can’t be used for other online services.
You can refer to this article for more details about the changes: Use our built-in browser in QuickBooks Desktop
If you have further concerns about QuickBooks with IE, you can always post back to get assistance. Stay safe!
How does this possibly help remedy the issue when QB is still relying on IE to function in any capacity? IE is no longer a functioning program and no longer supported by Microsoft. You need to get rid of the reliance completely. Once Intuit does that then please come back and give us the update. Thank you
What does IE being non-existent mean to you QB/Intuit? Let me tell you because your users know way more than your customer service people do. It means IE is no longer a functioning browser, it's dead, it's gone, it's extinct and that means QuickBooks cannot use this to function. If you have your own platform, why is IE needed so QB functions properly? Your back end and front end are not one minded.
Intuit seems to have abandoned us. Information It provides does not address the issue of IE being gone - not hiding somewhere - but gone. My quickBooks Pro desktop will not function. I've tried every fix suggested.
Tried all teh fixes suggested. ALL. None work. Cannot open QBPro desktop 2021. Very sad.
You are using Win 10 Pro (not Win 10 Home), correct?
Hi there, tvmediapro2016.
I understand the need of using Internet Explorer so you can use QuickBooks. As we all know Microsoft will no longer support it. That's why our Product Team had created a built-in browser that replaces Internet Explorer 11.
I want to make sure you can open QuickBooks and get you back on track again with your daily tasks. We have several customers that are still using Internet Explorer and this is what they shared to make the browser work.
If it didn't work on your end, I'll let you contact our QuickBooks Desktop Live Team. That way, they can take a look at your account and provide additional steps so you can open and use the program.
I'm adding again this article to learn more about the new custom internal browser: Use our built-in browser in QuickBooks Desktop.
Stay in touch with me if there's anything else you need. Just leave a comment below and I'll get back to you.
I'm not sure if Intuit like this and they will probably take this post down
We were wondering if the removal of IE from Windows 11 is still a big issue for users of older Quickbooks Desktop versions?
We've taken up this issue on the latest Windows 11 22H2 and spent about 2 weeks developing and documenting a solution that does indeed get older versions of Quickbooks running on Windows 11.
We have successfully got fully featured trial versions of Quickbooks Premier 2012 and Quickbooks Enterprise 2014 both running well in Windows 11 22H2 and several weeks of Microsoft updates have not broken it. On Win11 version 22H2, IE is completely removed from the system, and even downloading older versions of IE from Microsoft have the all important iexplore.exe file missing. But we found a solution. Overall the problems were many but one after the other, we were able to solve the all.
As a QB user for 15+ years, I haven't been able to so far identify any issues with their functionality. Both versions are creating transactions, recording payments, completing payroll, opening external internet links, running reports, adding accounts, printing, exporting to Excel etc etc. In our testing after the changes, we could not identify any QB errors or issues.
Unfortunately, the solution is not as simple as we would like and one of the steps involved the use of a 3rd Party App (which is the only Microsoft approved app for Windows in it's class but does cost a one time fee to buy. But once you fix the QB issue, you will still have a brilliant and useful new app). However, it does indeed work, when used in conjunction with the other fixes we documented. Beyond the IE11 issue we found several issues with Windows 11 missing default components, permission issues, left over incorrect registry entries etc but these are all resolved fairly easily within Windows itself with no registry hacks or additional files needed from anywhere else apart from Microsoft themselves.
Additionally, with IE11 enabled, it still works exactly as Microsoft intended after their June 2022 update. If you try and open IE11 outside of QB, it will still default back to MS Edge which is great. However, internally Quickbooks will use the IE11 browser to open links within QB and operates just the way it did years back when we had these versions on Windows 7 and 10.
The issues we needed to solve with older versions of Quickbooks on Win 11 has nothing to do with Quickbooks itself. No changes needed to be made to Quickbooks files or functionality. They are all Windows 11 issues and all solvable with no hacking and no manual edits of the windows registry and no files used from outside of Microsoft.
We believe there is about a week of work in getting our documented solution available for release as a full guide on the internet. We also think that our solution could be somewhat simplified by tracing the changes made on of the steps. We aren't entirely sure it is worth that effort, unless there is a genuine commercial demand out there.
My question is - If you could get your older versions of Quickbooks Desktop running on the latest Windows 11 Build 22H2 for under $100 which includes the cost to buy the brilliant app, would you do it?
Note whilst writing this question (1st Dec 2022) in today’s Microsoft Updates we got "2022-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5020044)", so we are now on Windows 11 22H2 Build 22621.900 and both versions of QB we installed are still working.
Internet Explorer is no longer available. We deleted it from our computer before realizing that our QB would not work without it. What options do we have? Please help! We can't pay our bills without it!!!
Which QBD year version and Windows OS do you run?
I appreciate you for getting back to the thread,
At this time, I'd suggest reaching out to our Phone Support team. An agent has the tools that can isolate the issue further. You may contact them through the Help menu.
I'm adding again this article to learn more about the new custom internal browser: Use our built-in browser in QuickBooks Desktop.
Keep me posted whenever help is needed.
None of this is necessary, just go to my fix from a year ago. A few simple clicks and you're back in business.
useless
and how are we supposed to update quickbooks when WE CANT OPEN QUICKBOOKS!!!!
Let me make this up to you, @SusanT115.
Before anything else, did you happen to encounter any error messages while trying to open QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT)? This way, I'll be able to provide you with an appropriate solution depending on your scenario.
While waiting for your reply, let's run some troubleshooting steps to isolate this.
First, let's download and install the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This way we'll be able to stop and prevent common errors. Here's how:
Next, let's run the QuickFix my Program from the Tool Hub.
If you still can't open QBDT, let's go ahead and proceed with solution 2 which is to suppress the QBDT application. This will determine if there's some damage to your company file and not with QuickBooks.
To do this:
If the issue still persists, proceed to Solution 3.
Additionally, if you need other helpful articles in the future, you can always visit our site: Help articles for QuickBooks Desktop.
Be sure to get back to me if you have other concerns. I'll be looking out to your reply and I'd be happy to assist you further. Take care.
As of 2/13/23, Microsoft has retired, out-of-support Internet Explorer 11 desktop application. It has been permanently disabled through a Microsoft Edge update on nearly all versions of Windows 10 (it remains enabled on w7 & w8.1). However, Microsoft states Edge has an Internet Explorer mode (IE mode) built in.
Can anyone share their experience about how this has affected the out of support desktop versions of Quickbooks (<2020) and if it does, what their experiences have been?
I can still run QBD 2018 and 2019 on Win 10 Home v21H2 build 19044. I wouldn't dare to remove IE11 or upgrade to Win 10 v22H2 or Win 11 at this time. If I had to replace my computer with a new one in 2 years time, I will buy and keep Win 10 Home to run the outdated QBD version.
After further researching this topic & per the M$ IE11 desktop app retirement facts, IE11 it was officially "permanently disabled" by the Windows 10 Semi-Annual Channel after MS force installed a February 14,2023 Edge security update. So, it has not been removed. Certain core functions remain that allow Edge to run in IE11 mode. This means it may be possible to either re-activate it (as many found necessary when IE11 went out of support June 15, 2022) or simply install another copy of it, then fully update it with an off-line updater such as WSUS. Per the retirement facts, Visual references (desktop Icons etc) to the browser are to be removed June 13, 2023.
Question: Is anyone who is currently running an out of support desktop version of Quickbooks (<2020) with the 2022H2 version of w10 experiencing difficulties?
Today I tried to use Quickbooks Pro 2015 and it was suddenly a boat anchor. Kept spewing messages about IE 11 needed. All the doc I could find seemed to found at faking it out and clicking boxes in the QWB.INI file to let it know IE 11 was really there. When I searched it appeared to be there but it really wasn't. I finally decided to launch it, read about how great Edge was, but then once it was installed I clicked on IE compatibility. That started some configuration scripts and finally said I was synced across all platforms. I shut down the QB intance that was failing and restarted it. When I went into my ledge (which is wear it failed) it now worked like a charm. The IE 11 call is being rerouted to Edge under the covers, at least enough to make QB Pro 2015 happy. I though my ledger from 1998 through Feb 2023 was forever lost but there it is.
Replying to: " So having QB require use of IE 11 is a lost cause, and asking users to workaround Microsoft's decision to expunge IE 11 is also a lost cause. "
That is not competely true. I got it to work simply by configuring Edge to run IE compatibility mode. Calls to IE are redirected to Edge under the covers. The original called (QB) never knows Edge actually serviced the IE call.
In reply to
"I'm a programmer and can tell you you're out of luck. The way they built QB is to embed a copy of the IE11 engine into it - so it is not like they can update a setting to use another browser. They'd have to go back and re-engineer QB2019 - a product that will soon loose support by May 2022. It is an antiquated programming design which leaves you to the mercy of the owner of that engine - though wouldn't fault MSFT here because they have many. many years communicated to the developer community NOT to do what QB has been doing. So in a way, this is planned functional obsolescence and timed just right for the shiny new QB2022. enjoy!"
I'm a Mainframe Systems Programmer with 40 years experience ( mostly assembler, machine language, and Unix) and figured out they do not have an embedded copy. If they did it would work regardless of what Microsoft did to IE since they would have their own internal version. After a few hours of poking around I figured out the call to IE11 after it has been discontinued fails. IT IS A CALL like calling an API not a branch to an embedded copy. With Edge now supporting IE compatibility I learned that by turning that on, the servicing call FROM QB to IE11 is redirected to Edge and works like a champ. I can once again use my QB Pro 2015.
