Buy nowDoes anyone know where the Hourly Rate Calculator went in the projects tab? Here are links to show videos and blogs, from QB, of the calculator in action. If you fast forward the video to minute 1:00 you will see this feature being used. It pulls the employee hourly rate + insurance + workmen's comp, etc. for the true cost per hour. No one from QB customer service seems to know what I am talking about. It isn't in their test account. Again, I have several videos and intuit blogs that show and tell how to use this feature. Please see below.
How to add labor costs to a project in QuickBooks Online - YouTube
Solved: Tracking labor costs (intuit.com)
Welcome to the Community, @ikorody.
I can assist you with the concern you have about the hourly rate calculator in the projects tab in QuickBooks Online.
In the recent updates to QuickBooks, the calculator icon used for calculating and adding employee hourly rates has been removed. If you use hourly cost rates to track your expenses, QuickBooks will calculate employees' labor costs using their timesheets tracked to your project. However, it's important to note that hourly cost rates will only calculate costs on new timesheets going forward. Any timesheets created before the hourly cost rate was entered will not be calculated in the project overview or reports.
Moreover, here are some articles you can check to learn more about tracking hourly labor costs and profitability. Also, added a resource where you can refer to the complete guidelines for customizing in QuickBooks Online:
I'm only a comment away if you have any questions about managing your employees in QuickBooks Online. Take care and enjoy your weekend!
I am confused because the videos you sent me shows the calculator. Your suggestion doesn't help me because it uses the calculator. Is there a QuickBooks upgrade I need for this calculator? I am so backed up on my tracking because of this change.

Hey there, @HWillard.
Thanks for coming back and letting us know some additional information.
Yes, you're correct. The calculator is still listed in the links provided. However, sometimes QuickBooks Online will update the system before we're able to review and change the links/guides for the Community.
With that being said, the hourly cost rates will only calculate costs on new timesheets going forward. The calculator has been removed from QuickBooks Online.
We apologize for any confusion and we'll update our Community articles without the calculator as soon as possible. I hope this helps answer your question. Have a great day!
I'm confused also. Quickbooks has become so Byzantine as to make it unusable for some tasks. The tutorials are outdated like you said. They say click this or that button that is not on my actual desktop. When you click on "Time Activities" in "Projects" it only shows costs you have figured out yourself and entered in the box (the one that doesn't have the calculator anymore). So the employees that I set up earlier when there was a calculator have a cost rate and the newer ones don't. So much for making project management easier. And, the AI Google searches say that QB now figures out the costs automatically. Yippee! But it doesn't, even when you set up a project to use payroll expenses. So any employee that you don't enter a cost rate manually will show zero cost when you look at the time records. How useful is that?
Anyway; AI will be running our businesses for us pretty soon. They will figure out QB and I will be retiring soon. Good luck!
