How do I change a sales receipt Number?

I'm working in QB Desktop entering sales receipts.  Suddenly QB won't let me enter the sales number and is auto generating duplicate numbers.  Did a setting change?  How can I correct this so we can once again enter the sales receipt numbers we want to?

Hello,

  As a workaround, you can use Business Importer Desktop in order to import/update all the Sales Receipts almost automatically. The app has many useful features, simple interface and free trial period.

  I hope it will save you a lot of time, spent on manual entry.

Thank you, but I still need to correct the existing problem, then I can think about moving forward with another option.

I'm here to help make sure you can enter the sales receipt's transaction numbers in QuickBooks Desktop.

 

You should always have an option to enter the transaction numbers on any sales forms in QuickBooks. Once you enter a number, QuickBooks will automatically increment it to avoid duplicates.

 

Since it's not letting you edit the number, it's possible that your user access is corrupted. Please ask the Admin to create a new user with the same access as yours. Then, try creating a sales receipt and check if you can enter the transaction number. If you can use the new login, then we have to delete and recreate your old user.


Here's how:

 

To delete a user:

  1. Choose Company at the top, then select Set Up Users and Passwords.
  2. Select the username and choose Delete User.
  3. Click Yes to confirm.

To add a user:

  1. Select Company at the top, then choose Set Up Users and Passwords.
  2. Click the Add User button and enter the User Name and Password.
  3. Choose Next and select the appropriate access.
  4. Click Finish.
