How do I correct a 1099 that has already been accepted by the IRS through Quickbooks?

I appreciate you for connecting with us, @melanie44

Currently, we're unable to support corrections to already submitted (by paper or e-file) 1099s. Customers have to complete and submit any corrected 1099-MISC or 1099-NEC outside QBO. That said, you'll have to get in touch directly with the IRS to do a manual amendment.

For additional information, please see this link from the IRS: General Instructions for Certain Information Returns, Part H. It contains the steps to perform when discovering an error after filing a return.

In QBO, we can run several payroll reports to view relevant information about your business' finances. This way, we can display the details about your past paychecks, payroll deductions and taxes, and a list of payments made to your contractors.

If you have clarifications about making corrections to your 1099s, please leave a reply below. We're always available to attend to your concerns. Have a great day!

How do I correct a 1099 that has already been accepted by the IRS through Quickbooks?

Very disappointed to find that QB will not allow us to print out a corrected 1099. This should have been disclosed when signing up for the service. I do not need you to file it for me - although you should - but I do need a way to re-print the form and take care of the rest myself. Seems like we are paying for a service that is not fully given to us.

I also think there should be a way to reprint so we can mail in the corrected 1099.

Quickbooks filed 3 of my contractors 1099s as empty. When chatting with live support they said it was my problem. How can Quickbooks make a mistake, then say oh well your problem and charge you for it?

@JaeAnnC

This is the most pathetic response I've ever seen, and I've seen some pretty bad ones from Intuit.

You made lives hell by "fixing" the 1099 process so that we all had to re do the mapping and go through a new process.  And, now, you can't figure out how to issue corrected 1099s?  Seriously???  That is just table stakes for the business that you are in.

Intuit does not deserve the customers you have.

Yep, I need to make a correction on one of my 1099's for a contractor and its been a nightmare to figure out another way to do this - QB should really figure out how to remedy this feature.

This is absolutely ridiculous that we cannot correct 1099's through the platform we create them!  I also need to correct a 1099 and I am shocked that QB fails to help in this situation.  I just need to re-print the forms so that I can submit them.

How do I correct a 1099 that has already been accepted by the IRS through Quickbooks?

This is so frustrating that I cannot correct 1099's through the program I used to submit them!! Does any one know if we e-filed through Quickbooks can we make a correction through the e-filing system on IRS,gov? or is this a paper correction. I am in the process of waiting for my TCC number to enroll in e-filing with IRS.gov wasn;t sure if this was a waste of my time and if I just needed to correct by paper.  Also  can someone tell me if I have to also correct the 1096 by paper as well?

How do I correct a 1099 that has already been accepted by the IRS through Quickbooks?

They revamped the system this year…and it does allow corrections now (because…DUH…it always should have).  But it’s still not great.  They haven’t addressed state filings for example (because DUH this needs to be available too…really???). But you can make a correction this year at least.  Hector and Alicia’s podcast have covered the new 1099 tool extensively so you should check that out. It’s called the Unofficial Quickbooks Accountant’s podcast or something along those lines.

Still pretty pathetic that it takes other users to shed light on the product rather than Intuit providing clear communication.

How do I correct a 1099 that has already been accepted by the IRS through Quickbooks?

Hello, @dialsconstructionllc.

I completely understand how critical it is to ensure that your e-filed tax return and forms are corrected in accordance with your IRS e-filing status. It can be a challenging situation, but please know that I'm here to help and support you every step of the way.

If you e-filed through QuickBooks and need to correct it, you would typically use the QuickBooks system to file an amended return or correction. However, since you are waiting for your TCC number to enroll in e-filing with IRS.gov, it's important to wait before making any corrections. Once you have your TCC number and are enrolled to e-file with the IRS, you should follow their guidelines for making corrections electronically.

As for the 1096 form, the correction process would depend on the nature of the correction. If a correction needs to be made to the 1096 form, you should follow the instructions provided by the IRS for corrections to that specific form. It's best to consult the IRS or a tax professional for guidance on proceeding with the correction process.

Please keep in mind that it's essential to wait for your TCC number and enrollment in e-filing with the IRS before proceeding with any corrections to ensure that they are processed correctly.

I'll include this article that helps you identify whether all your financial transactions are balanced and prepare your business for the coming year: Year-end guide for QuickBooks Online.

What if I haven't requested a TCC yet? What does that process look like? I have one contractor who I entered the wrong TIN by mistake.

How do I correct a 1099 that has already been accepted by the IRS through Quickbooks?

Warm welcome, @SHC Keeper. I'm here to provide information regarding the correction of the 1099 forms.

Since you haven't requested a TCC, you can contact the IRS to know what process you'll need to do.

On the other hand, if you e-file 1099 NEC or 1099-MISC with QuickBooks, beginning in 2024, you can submit amended 1099 forms through QuickBooks Online. However, there are no official instructions yet.

Additionally, you can review the year-end checklist for essential tasks such as distributing employee bonuses, preparing W-2 and 1099 forms, and reviewing year-to-date totals for each employee.

You can return here whenever you need information and my assistance correcting the 1099 forms. I'm always here for you.

When you say "beginning in 2024" do you mean we will be able to amend 2023 1099s soon, or we will begin being able to amend them with 2024 1099s (next year)?

Hi there, @bookkeeper001.

I'd like to share some insights about amending your 1099s in QuickBooks.

QuickBooks will soon provide the option to make corrections, also called amendments, to your 1099s. This means you will be able to correct any errors and e-file the corrected 2023 1099s through the 1099 filings page. The instructions on how to do this will be available in the following article: Correct or change 1099s in QuickBooks.

For future use, you may access your previous tax payments and forms by following this comprehensive guide: View your previously filed tax forms and payments

Please feel free to reach out to me here for any assistance you may require with correcting 1099s. I am always delighted to lend a hand. Take care and stay safe.

How do I correct a 1099 that has already been accepted by the IRS through Quickbooks?

Quickbooks has put its customers in a difficult position by not having the option to correct 1099s available yet. The IRS requires all corrections to be filed electronically if the original was filed electronically. No other service can correct 1099s unless they created the 1099 themselves. Quickbooks needs to correct this ASAP as it is putting its customers out of compliance!!!!!

How do I correct a 1099 that has already been accepted by the IRS through Quickbooks?

Let's quickly update your 1099 form from MISC to NEC in QuickBooks to ensure correctness and compliance, @Definio.

Since you've received the 1099-MISC, it's important to ensure you file the correct 1099-NEC form. To verify, please follow these steps:

  1. Log in to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Go to Payroll, select Contractors, then 1099 filings.
  3. Select View 1099 to view a PDF copy.

If you find that you made a filing error, here are the steps you can take to correct it:

  1. Go to the 1099 filings tab. Click Taxes, then 1099 filings.
  2. Choose Correct next to the form you want to fix.
  3. Displayed accounts represent contractor payments. Click Remove to delete an account, or Select Accounts to add or change one.
  4. To change the 1099 box, click the dropdown next to the account and select either 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC for the payment type to contractors.
  5. Select Next, and verify the Corrected total.
  6. Check your contractors' personal info and email addresses. Select Edit to make any changes. Select Next.
  7. Select Preview to view each corrected 1099.  Select E-file corrected form twice.

Additionally, you can take advantage of our Explore QuickBooks Payroll services anytime if you require further assistance organizing your entries for an accurate record of filing your payroll tax forms.

For more details on correcting 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC forms, you can check out this article: Correct or change 1099s in QuickBooks.

@Defino,  if you have more questions or need additional assistance with updating your 1099 forms, feel free to post another comment here. We're committed to ensuring everything is correctly set for your filings. Wishing you a smooth correction process!

How do I correct a 1099 that has already been accepted by the IRS through Quickbooks?

Quickbooks claims now that you can correct a 1099 once they show "accepted" you are suppose to see an option that says " correct".  But I do not get that option, of course spent hours with their support and they do not have an answer as why mine only says View and not given the correction option.   Quickbooks is terrible

How do I correct a 1099 that has already been accepted by the IRS through Quickbooks?

I appreciate the efforts you've made so far to address your 1099 forms issue, @Natsmith830. Let me share information about this matter.

When it comes to handling tax forms in QuickBooks, accuracy is crucial. QuickBooks offers the option to correct 1099 forms once they have been accepted by the IRS. However, the IRS is currently not allowing any corrections for 1099 filings. Corrections will not be open until February 2025 because the IRS needs to have all the forms submitted before Intuit can start processing corrections. Therefore, corrections will only be available after peak submission periods.

With this in mind, I recommend that you get in touch with our Customer Support team for updates on 1099 corrections. They have the appropriate tools to assist you efficiently. This approach ensures that any issues are addressed promptly, thereby preventing potential delays in tax filing.

Moreover, the IRS has released new guidelines regarding electronic filings and corrections. You can check out this article to learn about the latest changes: Understand the IRS regulations for filing 1099s and W-2s.

Furthermore, you can refer to this article for guidance on how to print 1099 and, if applicable, 1096 forms in QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Contractor Payments, or QuickBooks Desktop: Print your 1099 and 1096 forms.

How do I correct a 1099 that has already been accepted by the IRS through Quickbooks?

Hello,

How do I correct a 1099 that has already been accepted by the IRS through Quickbooks?

The "correct" button feature is working as designed as corrections are not open until February. Let me provide some additional information so you'll be guided on what to do, Juan.

Intuit can only begin submitting corrections once the IRS has accepted the forms. This is why the option to make corrections will become available after the peak submission period. You can process and submit the correction in the said month.

On the other hand, if you need to correct tax forms for years before 2023, you will have to coordinate directly with the IRS to amend or correct your 1099 forms. You can follow these IRS instructions for guidance.

After making the necessary corrections, ensure that you provide the updated return to the recipient or contractor personally.

To know more about what types of corrections aren't supported and how we file corrected forms, read this article for your reference: Correct or Change 1099s in QuickBooks.

Furthermore, check out how you can run 1099 reports. These reports show your 1099 information, such as payment totals and more. I've added this article for you: Create 1099 Reports in QuickBooks.
