How do I delete an Expense category from the drop-down list?Thank you!

Welcome to the Community, John. QuickBooks Online allows you to make an Expense category inactive to remove it from your active list.

 

Here are the steps on how to make the Expense category inactive:

 

  1. Navigate to Transactions, then select Chart of accounts.
  2. Enter the name in the search bar to easily locate the category.
  3. Click the dropdown icon, then select Make inactive (reduces usage).

 

QuickBooks enables you to make categories inactive instead of deleting them, allowing for easy reactivation and reuse in the future. This feature saves you time and effort. Once the expense category is inactive, it won't show in the category dropdown. Please see the picture below for a visual reference after making an expense category inactive.
