how do I move general ledger activity in qbol from one company to another

It's good to see you here in the Community, @htrani44.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) only allows you to export the general ledger. Thus, importing the data to another QuickBooks company isn't possible.

As an alternative, you can import your Chart of Accounts and Bank Data into your other company file. First off, let's export your chart of accounts to an Excel file. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Click the Run Report button.
  3. In the Account List report, click the Export option and select Export to Excel.
  4. From the Excel file, remove the unnecessary columns and rows (reports name, description, balance, and currency).
  5. Save the file, then import it.

After importing the chart of accounts, you can now import your bank data. To do so, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Click the Gear icon, then select Import data.
  2. Choose Bank Data.
  3. Select the option you prefer, either manually or automatically. Please know that the automatic option can only download 90 days of your bank transactions.
  4. Follow the on-screen instruction.

In addition, you may also want to look for a third-party app that can help import the general ledger from one account to another.

how do I move general ledger activity in qbol from one company to another

This is great information, thank you. Another question I have is as follows:

As I approach the cutoff date to move my business into a new company file on QBOL, how do I handle the Accounts Payable Ageing data as well as my Outstanding check list?

Thanks for getting back to us here in the Community, @htrani44.

I'll share more details about moving your existing list from one QuickBooks Online (QBO) company to another so you can manage your company data accordingly.

You can import your existing list from one QBO company to another. However, this action is currently limited to vendors, customers, inventory, and chart of accounts. As your cutoff date to move your business into your new company file is approaching, you can either manually import your bank data or integrate a third-party application to help you handle your Accounts Payable (A/P) ageing data and checks.

If you wish to learn more about importing lists to QBO, please see this article: Move your lists to QuickBooks Online.

Also, you may want to check out one of our Help pages as your reference to guide you in managing your business' growth and transactions in QBO: QuickBooks Learn and Support. It includes help articles, Community discussions with other users, and video tutorials, to name a few.

Please feel free to leave a comment below if you have other concerns about importing in QBO. I'm always ready to help. Take care, @htrani44.
