I would like to remove old bin locations from an inventory item. We move our product regularly and would like to be able to hide the old bin locations and only have the default location showing.
It is difficult to run inventory reports with zero qty showing on current bins, as all the old locations also show up. I would like only the default locations with zero to show up.
Is there a way to do that.
Thank you for visiting us today, @ALGLP.
I can help you remove/hide the past bin locations of your inventory items. You have the option to turn of the tracking of bin locations.
Here's how:
After modifying your preferences, the inventory items no longer has the bin location field. For additional reference, you can check this article: Set up Advanced Inventory.
Keep me posted if you have other questions about inventory, ALGLP. I'm here to provide more help. Have a good one.
Honey Lynn,
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately this takes the bins away. I only want it to take the bins that do not have any inventory away.
If you look below. I would like all the old locations with 0 to go away or be able to hide them.
Hello there, ALGLP.
There's no option to hide a bin location at this time. I'd suggest sending a feature request to have this option added in QuickBooks Desktop. The updates we roll out are usually based on the suggestions that we receive from our customers.
Just visit our feedback site and share your thoughts and suggestions there: https://feedback.qbo.intuit.com/.
Please let me know if you need anything else.
Thank you Sophia.
It has been shared topic: Be able to remove/hide past bin locations from inventory items
Hello there, SundayWST.
Thanks for joining this thread. I appreciate you for sharing your thoughts with us.
At the moment, the option to hide bin location is unavailable. This time, allow me to personally submit a feature request directly to our product engineers to hopefully gain this functionality in the future.
To check for the new available features in QuickBooks Desktop, you can follow the steps below:
I'll be around here in the Community, so please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any other concerns.
It has been over a year since this was addressed, just checking to see if there a feature yet to remove bins with 0 qty or allow to select default bins for our inventory?
Thanks for reaching out to us, boss-mama.
Currently, the option to hide or remove the bins with zero quantity is still unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop. Please know that we're always taking note of your ideas to improve your QuickBooks Experience. You may visit our blog from time to time to stay current with all our product enhancements and updates.
With regard to setting up default bins in QuickBooks Desktop, this can be done by customizing the columns in the Add / Edit Multiple List Entries window. I'll show you how to do it:
In case you'll need to track the bin location codes and their associated data, you can pull up the Items By Bin Location report from the Reports menu.
I also encourage reading this article to learn more about how the Advanced Inventory feature works in the program: Set up Advanced Inventory.
If there's anything else that I can help you with, please don't hesitate to add a comment below. It's always my pleasure to help.
Just checking to see if this feature has been updated to not show locations with 0 inventory...this seems like a basic inventory function!

As of now, removing or hiding zero inventories is still not available in QuickBooks Desktop. While doing it is not yet available, I'd suggest sending a feature request about adding more customization options for sales transactions. You can send it directly to our engineers from your company file. Here's how:

I'm also jumping in on this conversation. I did submit a product suggestion, but I do so very regularly and not one of my suggestions has been taken. In short, I wouldn't hold your breath for them to actually listen to real users and make changes based on what people actually need.
Hoping to bump this suggestion back up to the top - looks like people have been asking for years for this to be done. It's June 2022 and we are still waiting.
Hello, bethanne68.
I understand how important it is for your company to have the option to hide or remove past bin locations in QuickBooks Desktop. As far as I know, there isn't any update on when this be added.
Our engineers are constantly improving our software, and we have a corresponding team that collects all user requests. It's possible the required number of requests to include this option hasn't met yet. I encourage you to submit your product suggestion to have this functionality in the future.
Here's how:
I'm also added this article for future reference if you want to adjust your inventory: Adjust your inventory quantity or value in QuickBooks Desktop.
You're always welcome to post again if you have other QuickBooks concerns. We're here to help you out.
Why do title it Advanced Inventory when it's not very advanced? Why would it continue to show all of the locations? Any retail store is always moving products. Looking to move off QB due to the lack of improvements the company is making.
Qb is absolutely failing at this everyone switch to profit 21. These oxygen wasters aren't here to help.
This needs to be addressed! When using build assemblies, having multiple bin locations on an individual item prevents the bin location from being auto-filled. This forces the user to manually select each item bin location that this affects. It's time consuming and annoying. We need the ability to remove empty or past bin locations from individual items.
Hello there, @PRIShane,
I recognize that deleting this bin location is beneficial for your business. I'm here to provide more information on how to remove this option.
Once the inventory site is linked to this transaction, we cannot clear this option. We can send feedback to our product development to enhance your experience.
Here's how:
I also recommend reading this article to learn more about how the program's Advanced Inventory feature works: Set up Advanced Inventory.
Moreover, if you want to adjust your inventory, I've added this article for future reference: Adjust your inventory quantity or value in QuickBooks Desktop.
You are always welcome to re-post if you have further concerns with inventory items in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). We're here to assist you.
An alternative solution would be to allow us to assign a "default" bin location that will autofill when creating build assemblies.
Has this been addressed yet? We are in need of this update...
We are on year 5 of this being an issue. How many requests does this need to be addressed?
I know how convenient it is to be able to hide or remove past bin locations in your desktop account, JasonB17.
As of now, this option is still not available in QuickBooks Desktop. I understand how updates are relevant, so you can get back to business efficiently.
Please know that due to high volumes of feature requests, our engineers might still not have reviewed this idea. The updates we roll out are usually based on the constant suggestions that we receive from our customers.
Thus, I recommend sending your feedback directly to our product developers. They may review and consider this idea and will work on its progress to include it in future product updates. You may visit our blog from time to time to stay current with all our product enhancements.
Here's how to send feedback:

I appreciate your willingness to help us improve our products. I've always got your back if you require additional assistance managing inventories in your account. Feel free to leave them in the comments below. Keep safe!
This is a nightmare when using the Warehouse manager app. If I do a cycle count it adds the item and all bin locations old and new. so a cycle list of 10 items ends up have 20 or more lines because it wants you to count old locations even if its zero and the default location has changed. Why wouldn't it just show the current location??? Please change this!
I am still confused as to why this isn't something being escalated. They cycle counting process is tedious enough in QuickBooks and then you end up with 20 lines on 10 items.
Pretty much a mess now in my inventory. We didn't know this was going to be a problem prior to setting up Enterprise Inventory.
We added a custom field for the non-existent Default Site and Location - tedious but works. I think I will have to set up a new warehouse now that we know it won't get fixed. I understand that there are transactions tied to the "old" location but there should be an easy way to do this.
Maybe you could add a text warning that if you make a typo/enter anything wrong even once you live with it forever.
