Changing the preferences in the "Integrated Applications" does NOT do anything to stop them from prompting you to log in!!!!

I work at a firm that provides QBs services for tons of companies using 2016 - 2021 versions of Desktop.

I am not the holder of the Licenses, and would never sign in as the administration of the company's account.

Sometimes we set up companies just to get financials for the tax return and may never use it again.

So why would that created company need me to log in?

This is why, Intuit is stopping all sales of licenses in December 2021.  So if you don't have a DT license after December you will not be able to get one. They are going to an annual fee schedule; like the Microsoft 365 model.  And they are supposed to move support back on shore....yeah right.  And they keep pushing the QBO hard.  The QBO is less productive for me.  The user interface is cumbersome and when you try to change the settings, it reverts back to the default, especially when reconciling.  

Desktop is really not designed for Accounting Firms; rather suited for individual small businesses.

So signing in is not an option for me as an employee of the Firm.  The people who are making these decisions are probably not using the software on a daily basis. And I see from the posts, they don't care if you don't want to sign in every time, or they would have fixed the issue.  Signing into 20 different companies in one day is madness.

I am not the owner of the licenses.  I don't know any of this.

What a waste of my time when you work for a firm that provides QBs services.

We have a number of employees that access the QBs of multiple companies; we would have to have every computer sign in.  Madness.

I must agree with the added annoyance of the Intuit Level Sign In.  Our company used to share the admin sign in between two people in different locations for Quickbooks.  Now the admin sign in adds that you must enter your intuit sign in.  My intuit sign in will not work with QB Admin.  Our payroll processor's sign in with intuit seems to be linked directly to our QB Admin Sign in, so I have lost the ability to sign in as admin.  If you sign in to Intuit it makes sense that you would also need QB sign in because of multiple products.  However when you sign in to QB you should not need Intuit permissions.  My 2 cents.

FP, its been months and months and your fix has worked fine for me since all that time and blocked the forced log-in. However just this past week, somehow automatic updates switched on 'magically' and I started getting the "an important update is waiting for you and install now button" every time I start QB. I have switched the auto update back off but still get the box.  Is there the same kind of fix to block the update box from starting each time, or phoning home as there is for the forced log in? 

I now get the update quickbooks box when I start QB after having blocked the login annoyance per instructions above. This seems to have come on after having been switched off, of its own accord. I don't want to see the update now box because I don't want to do any updates. 

Any way to stop the install update popup that has not started appearing, despite my having turned off auto updates (it turned on again magically) as with the fixes to block the phone home annoying log in you gave back in April of this year?

More and more, software companies are resorting to this "Mother may I" tactic.  The primary reason is to avoid software piracy.  Sad to say, too many people abuse the system, so the "good 'ole days" of buying a desktop or offline version of software has become non-existent.  I fully understand why software companies like Intuit, MiTek, Microsoft, etc... have you check in on a regular basis.  They are just seeing if your license is still active and that you haven't shared the install files with others that did not purchase the license.

It's annoying, yes.  But it is also our own fault.

We run our systems on a private network that is not connected to the internet for security reasons.  We have to open up the system to allow our offline software to "check in", each week.  It has just become a routine and is a choice we made to stay offline as much as possible.

Yes, annoying, as I said before, but I see their (software company's) point of view also.

I agree the advertising pop-ups are annoying.  I've tried all their steps and I still get them.  They will never fix it because it is too lucrative for them.  This problem has been on forum posts for years now. As I said on another post, one day an alternate software will come to pass, and Intuit customers will flock to it in droves to get away from their annoying marketing tactics.

In this matter, the $$$'s out weight the genuine interest or desire of the consumer.  Until a better software companies comes along, there is nothing we can do about it.

Amen.  I totally agree.  You nailed it.  Like I've said in other posts, the $$$ outweighs the consumer.  This will never be fixed until an viable alternative come onto the market. 

I don't think contacting the developers with solve the problem.  They are just employees.  Intuit's Top Executives are well aware of this problem and have been for years.  Their sole intention is to get us to a subscription based online version.  The days of offline desktop versions are history.

Hi TexasUser, Try going into the Task Manager> Startup and disabling "QuickBooks Automatic Update", let us know if that works.

It is disabled. The popup must be something programmed to start annoying users after a while after they have not updated for a long time?

I am on my own private AWS server platform and have so since 2010 along with many other accountants.  Some clients log in & handle all but month end activites themselves, we have VPNs b4 the RDP to access their files work all day, and some just have us do everything. Some have integrated services such as IFSM, merch srvs, using their own emails. we also email invoices with pmt links. 

I have my biz acct on the same platform. with services. The license is my QB accountant license with extra seats. So who is the primary admin ?  I feel me, but do not wish to screw up using other services.

If it is to be the client and I have to wait for a code or something, I will never get anything done. This is why these small biz owners hire us ! 

I am not happy in having Intuit anchor my already secured server.

Any ideas how to proceed in peace? I have 2 new files to create.  Thanks!

Maybe a little more detail. 

Launch TASK MANAGER

click on NAME to sort the files into alphabetical order

scroll down to the Q's and you will see two files that are clearly QB related

one at a time, highlight each, then right click and END TASK

You will need to do this each time you turn your computer back on if you turn it off regularly.

I ended both qb related files in task manager, started QBs, and still get the pop up box to install an update or install later.

It is becoming a leqal issue: does QB have the right to remove your access to software you've purchased because you don't want to log on and confirm information they've no right to have? 

We are told by Intuit that 'this is not the impression we want to convey' and that their insistence that they have a right always to be inside of our computer is preposterous on its face. Don't tell me that it's for my protection and to improve service and all the other marketing pap. It's so QB can market to us and always be "in touch" with what we're doing and using their product. But there are privacy issues involved and if large government agencies and Fortune 500 companies are being hacked, I believe I have the right not to invite Intuit into my company files on a regular basis.

I am not stupid. I am a bookkeeping and compliance professional. I switch among many QB accounts. There is no law and no compliance issue involved in permitting QB to download our metadata, usage or any other information we choose not to share. This is an onerous overlay from a company that fully acts like the monopoly that it is. It has got to stop.

This "feature" has got to be removed in the name of client privacy. If I choose to use QB unconnected to the internet I need to see the citation of the law preventing me from doing so. 

This is how I've set my accounts up as well, and I still get asked.

I really wonder why QB thinks it's okay to anger its customer base. On this message board I've seen no defense of this situation from an actual user. 

Being told it's for "our own good" rings terribly false when the motive of QB, despite their exhortations here, is clear: you log in periodically, for no reason other than our marketing and metadata, or you can't use the software you've already purchased.

More than a year later and apparently, I’ve received oodles of kudos for my reply rants, and Intuit hasn’t changed their awful marketing behavior. 

I now know you can use a very old ‘close window’ command, at least for Windows-based computers: ALT-F4. This closes the prompt. That’s all. 

The security recommendations from Intuit have nothing to do with security, and everything to do with selling online services. If you require online services, ok. If you don’t, once the software has been purchased, ALL marketing should stop upon request. $300 isn’t shareware! It is safer NOT to go online. 

Update to my post... I spoke with the developer team yesterday and they now understand my issue. We took a look at my migrated client QB files to my new server that were upgrade to 2021 before this new requirement went into play. Here is the scoop.... The Client must be the primary whether they go into the client file or not. Reason is that intuit login is used for merch accts and any other intregrated softwares.

So although I own the softwares and my clients are leasing a seat, and I own the payroll software, I must be a secondary Admin and can perform all functions the primary has.

I also found out why this new requirement has been put into place. Some client gain their PPP funding thru QB Capitol and they did not have a merch acct so they did not have an intuit login. This login is required to forgive the PPP loan thru QB's Capitol.  

I did express the security breach for those of us that already have secured systems and AWS server platforms. They did say they are hearing a lot of negativity from PAPs and are taking this into account so we may see this requirement change a bit in a future update.

But for now, we need to comply when generating a new file. I can say none of my migrated clients are in the mode of having to login every 7 days, they are automatically logged in when we go into the file for the purpose of downloading or syncing up the QB pmts received into the QB file. 

This is not changing us to online services. Nor are they making a cpy of our files and lacing them onto their servers. It is for the services such as merch accts, Corrigo (Intuit Field Service mgmt) and other integrated services we use and sync using web services.  I.

I was told they will work on a setting so that you do not have to re-login every 7 days, and put back in place the stay online button. I was also told there will soon be a button for those that do not use any outside services to shut this off. But keep in mind, if you wish to gain funding for your or your client's biz growth, an account will be needed to gain this.

This is all well and fine for Intuit customers who use "other integrated services" .

For customers like myself who do not use any integrated services this is an invasion of privacy.

I'll believe it when I see it. I think they're just kicking the can down the road. You know this sounds a little bit like the new administration to me, Quickbooks knows what they're doing is wrong, and don't really care how many people it my be inconveniencing.

Not a solution - and not addressing the problem... STILL not listening to what they have been hearing!

Just want to let you know, the instructions to get rid of the annoying log in to an Intuit account DOES NOT WORK! I followed the instructions, a few months ago, but today, I get the same stupid, annoying message to log in to an Intuit account (no way to close it other than Task Manager). I just followed the same instructions today, and THE BOX FOR "DON'T ALLOW ANY APPLICATIONS..." IS ALREADY CHECKED! ! !  So, this fix does not work!!!! GET RID OF THIS ANNOYING THING! ! There's no reason for anyone using the Desktop QB's to log in. TO DO WHAT? ? ? NOTHING! ! ! 

The only way I've found to get around it is to hit ALT+F4 at the same time. (Which closes the popup window). But of course this only happens to the owner of the company so it makes me look stupid to give him some workaround instead of fixing it.
