How to Tag a Parent Account

Optimizing your financial tracking is an admirable move that will greatly benefit your organization, Kitcat1. Let’s explore the details of how Tags work in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The option to tag a parent account is unavailable in QBO. Tags are customizable labels that categorize invoices, expenses, and bills. You can also create tags for each event and group them under an Events tag group. To learn more about this one, check out this article: What are tags and why should I use them?

If you need to run the report for both tags and parent accounts, we can pull up the Profit and Loss by Tag Group report. Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports on the left menu.
  2. Enter Profit and Loss by Tag Group in the search field.
  3. Tap Customize.
  4. Choose Filter and put check marks on Tags and Distribution Account. Then, select tags and parent accounts on both fields.
  5. Press Run report

You can memorize this report. This feature streamlines the entire customization process and saves you the hassle of redoing it.

Furthermore, you can refer to this article to learn more about handling tags in the program: Implementing Tags in QuickBooks Online.
