I am trying to move a client from Desktop to Online on a Mac. When it asks me to choose my company in which to import my file the company I need doesn't show up in the dropdown box. How can I get the file to the right destination?

I am trying to move a client from a trial version of Desktop to QuickBooks Online (all on a Mac). When it asks me to choose my company in which to import my file the company I need doesn't show up in the dropdown box even thought it exists on QBO. How can I get the file to the right destination?

Showing up the online account in the list is my top priority here, @aes74.

I'm here to ensure that you can move your clients to QuickBooks Online (QBO) as soon as possible. This way, you can now begin to manage them within your updated account.

Since the QBO account exists, this should be visible in the drop-down. With this, I'd recommend contacting our technical support. They can investigate the root cause of the problem in a secure environment and help you from there.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to this QBDT help link.
  2. Select your product and click Continue
  3. Enter your concern in the box and tap Continue
  4. Choose either Chat with us or Have us call you.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Make sure to contact them within business hours to ensure a quick response.

Once your online account appears in the list, you can now proceed with moving your client. Also, note that some of the information or names will change in the QBO due to feature differences. For more details, visit this article: What to expect when you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Once confirmed, you can now follow the steps below to accomplish this.

  1. Log in to your QBDT for Mac as an admin and create a backup copy just in case.
  2. Make sure that your QuickBooks file is under 350,000 targets. To check this, click the Help menu and choose Product Information

      3. Go to the File menu, then choose Export to QuickBooks Online.

      4. Pick your existing QBO account in the list, then enter your credentials.

      5. Click Ok, got it

For more details, check out this article: Converting a Desktop for Mac file to Online.

I've also added some articles on how to troubleshoot importing errors and manage QBO accounts.

I'd be pleased to help if you have other problems with your account. Please stay healthy and safe during this pandemic.

@aes74

Do you need to migrate data from QBD Mac to QBO US version?

Make sure your Total Targets < 350K. Otherwise, run the Condense Data utility beforehand.

Thank you for your help!

It took about 3 hours on the phone with them since they are having problems with the Mac desktop versions in regards to exporting to the online version. The tech had me actually use a windows computer to do it. Problem solved! Thank you!
