I am trying to switch from QB2106 to QB Online. But, to migrate my data it won't recognize my .qb2016 extension. How do I migrate it without .qbw, .qbb or .qbm ?

When I upgraded to Monterrey OS, my QB2016 will no longer open, which is why I have to move from desktop to online.

You can install the trial version of QB Desktop 2021 to upgrade your company file and convert it to QB Online.

Welcome to the Community, Danny.

I'm here to help you migrate your data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

I agree with what Fiat Lux - ASIA suggested. You can upgrade to QuickBooks Desktop 2021 using the trial version since the 2016 is not supported. From there, you can migrate the data. Before doing so, your computer or laptop should meet the QuickBooks system requirements.

Here's how to upgrade:

  1. Sign-in to Windows as an admin user.
  2. Download your new version (2021) of QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Follow the steps to install your new version.

You can then move your files from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online. Follow the steps below.

  1. Get your Desktop file ready.
  2. Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.
  3. Get ready to use QuickBooks Online.

Refer to this article for the detailed steps: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

I'm also adding this article about navigating QuickBooks Online: How-to-videos.

Let me know if you have questions about migrating from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online. I'm always here to help. Have a great day.

I am sorry. I should have mentioned it is QB 2016 for Mac.  I did try what was suggested, but I seem to be in a perpetual loop. When I got to the Trial QB 2023, it did appear to read the files and showed my my companies names, but then it was asking me to select a plan, and since I already have an online plan (no companies uploaded yet), I sign-in and then it doesn't recognize the QB2016 files again.

Something miraculously happened, and my Trial is working, at least for one of my companies; the most important one!  Yea!  However, when I tried to open the second one, it wouldn't work.  The company was created, and it appears to point to the data file, but everything is empty.  None of my accounts, are showing, just the standard ones that load and all have zero balances.  Any ideas?
