Import bank rules from Online to Desktop?

I'm transitioning from Online to Desktop to save some money and am disappointed in how difficult it is.  I've seen similar questions asked about Desktop --> Online (not possible), but before I go trying to manually re-create 20+ rules, I want to confirm whether there is any way to import my bank transaction rules into Desktop software.  I've exported them from Online to an Excel file, but I don't see any way to pull them into Desktop.  Very disappointing if not possible.

Thanks for checking in with us, Lindahom19.

I want to make sure your concern about importing bank rules in QuickBooks Desktop gets taken care of.

At the moment, Bank Rules from QuickBooks Online cannot be transferred into QuickBooks Desktop. You'll need to manually set them up in QuickBooks Desktop.

Here's how to create a renaming rule in QuickBooks Desktop:

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Click Bank Feeds.
  3. Choose Bank Feeds Center.
  4. Select Rules in Bank Feeds window.
  5. Select Manage Rules drop-down then choose Add New.
  6. In Add Rules Details window, provide a Rule Name.
  7. From the Description drop-down, make a selection and in the Description field, type a word or phrase you want to use as the condition for the rule. If you want to create more conditions, select + button.
  8. In the Do This section, make the appropriate selection from the drop-down and depending on your selection, enter the Payee name or the Account name.
  9. Select Save.

I've got you an article to learn more about setting up Bank Rules in QuickBooks Desktop: Use renaming rules for Bank Feeds.

For a list of limitations when exporting from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop, you can check out this article: Export limitations when converting QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

@Charies_M

1) How is this in any way under the sun making sure the customer's concern ("Very disappointing if not possible") is "taken care of"?

2) Your customer did not ask you how to add bank feed rules.

3) It should not take seven paragraphs, with lots of unnecessarily bolded text to say,

"Unfortunately the convert process does not convert the rules and also there is no way to import them.  They have to be entered manually."

Import bank rules from Online to Desktop?

thank you. thank you for saying this.

I'm so very very fed up with how untalented and stupid QB support is. 20 minutes on hold to talk to people I swear have never even heard of quickbooks.

The transition to qbo was a frigging ship show. The integration with Autotask (overpromised) was a total failure, SO THEN we were forced to transition BACK to QB Desktop (lost rules, lost templates, lost taxes...missing transactions, wrong data in the IS/BS....and the QBO to QBD Export ONLY WORKED 1 out of 3 times.

Intuit, you get an F for being such a shipty company, pushing everyone to QBO which is a shipty product that does not work. If integrations and mapping DON'T work, then instead of saying "so simple even the dumbest moron can do it", SAY IT DOES NOT WORK. and save me 25 hours of being on hold with your CSR dummies.

Your comments solidify my personal policy to talk potential clients OUT of a transition to or from either product.  The best idea seems to be to begin anew at a year end or quarter end, import the longest list, then keep the old product for as long as it takes to reach full satisfaction with data in the new product going forward.  I've not yet read a comment related to a QBD to QBO transition that went well.

I'm sorry to say that Intuit has gone down hill to a point where it's now fallen off a cliff. This is no longer a solution. I can get better results using Excel. I've now spent 3 days working with this worthless so called technology.

Intuit has gone down hill to a point it's now gone over a cliff. I've now wasted days trying to make this work. They recently removed the ability to add more than one credit card per online bank. Why? well they don't understand accounting in my opinion.

They have no clue what "user experience" means. They deliberately lock you out of your data or they are just ignorant. Why they offer Exports but no imports is wild.

I'm at a loss and will no longer use this so called technology. I can get more results with Excel than I can get with QuickBooks or Quicken. Both are now horrible in my eyes. There support is all over the place. It's always a Mistry to find answers. There are more manual steps to do than it would take to do on paper. It's time to search for someone else.

Sad but true. They should fold up at this point before they hurt all their customers.

Switch to another accounting app and purchase a 3rd party conversion service if required.

I totally agree with you. QBO is a horrible product and Intuit can't even wait to fix all the features and problems before start to force it down our throats. No where they mention or tell you that you have to recreate all the banking rules. I have over 500 rules. Sorry.... they say. If I have any other choice I will not do business with intuit.
