Yes, you on the right track in creating a list of your inventory items in an Excel file. Let me show you how you can import it.

1. Go to File.
2. Select Utilities.
3. Choose Import.
4. Click Excel Files.
5. Under List, select Inventory Parts.
6. Perform the changes and correct mapping of your list entry.
7. Select Save Changes.
8. Click Close.

Should you need to import Inventory Assembly, you will need a 3rd party app.

Thanks for the response.  

One more question regarding BOM:  I'm building the inventory assembly items, as you mentioned, on the Desktop version.  I purchased the desktop and online subscription.  However, in viewing BOM comments, the inventory assembly will not work on the online version?  Or, once I complete the inventory assembly on the Desktop version, it will automatically convert to the online version?  By the various questions/replies, it was a bit confusing how this would work.

Are you using QB Desktop and QB Online at the same time? They are 2 different products. You will need a manufacturing app to integrate with your QBO account.
