Intermittent QuickBooks 2024 Startup Failure / Freezing

I have a client who is experiencing random and intermittent startup issues with QuickBooks 2024 on Windows 11 Pro. While his machine was on my bench, I successfully opened up QB almost 2 dozen times over this past weekend with no problem whatsoever.  As soon as he got it home and tried to run QB, it froze and eventually popped up this error message.  I tried to submit/send the report but of course, that didn't work either.  How is this fixed?

Intermittent QuickBooks 2024 Startup Failure / Freezing

Thank you for letting us know about this, @easyrider. I'll share information and troubleshooting methods to address the unrecoverable error in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

When you experience this error while launching the program, it can be due to outdated Windows or QuickBooks updates, data corruption, or a need for program code maintenance. On top of that, various circumstances can contribute to the occurrence of this particular error message on your system.

For a detailed understanding of the scenarios and how you can fix them, please see this page: Unrecoverable error in QuickBooks Desktop.

Before we go over the troubleshooting methods, I highly recommend updating your QuickBooks Desktop 2024 to the latest release and secure a backup copy of the company file.

Once done, you'll want to open a sample company file. By doing so, we can identify if the error has something to do with the company file used when the error prompt appeared. These are the steps:

  1. Press and hold the Ctrl key.
  2. Double-click your QuickBooks program icon.
  3. Hold the Ctrl key until the No Company Open window shows.
  4. From the No Company Open window, select Open a sample file.
  5. Select any sample file from the list.

Another way to fix this is to move your company file to a new folder. Here's how:

  1. Right-click anywhere on your Desktop, select New and then select Folder. Name the folder QBTEST.
  2. Open the folder where the company file is saved.
  3. Right-click the file, then select Copy.
  4. Paste the company file in the QBTEST folder that you created.
  5. Open the company file from the QBTEST folder.

Please check this page for other available fix: Troubleshoot Unrecoverable Error XXXXX XXXXX.

On the other hand, you can check this handy article to help you fix a data damage on your QBDT file: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

You can mention me in the comment section for additional assistance with the unrecoverable error. I'll respond promptly and offer a helping hand in resolving your concerns as soon as possible. Stay safe.

This error message is mostly related to Windows components. Ask your client to reinstall their QBD 2024.
