Is anyone else having problems e-filing their 1099's? I've read through the various threads but there doesn't seem to be any resolution to the permission problem. Thanks!

The error message is: Your account doesn't have the permissions needed to do this.  My permissions have not been changed over the last several years and I've always e-filed successfully.

I've got your back to ensure you can e-file your 1099 form, @wendover555.

With QuickBooks Online Payroll, you have the control to pay and file your federal and state taxes electronically. Since there isn't permission to do so on your end, we can check and verify your e-file setup.

Here's how:

  1. Review your automated tax payments and form filing settings. Make sure the automated tax payments and form filing is turned enabled. Or if it's off, you've selected I'll initiate payments and filings using QuickBooks.
  2. Proceed to Payroll, then click Overview.
  3. Check your To-Do List for any tasks to finish:
  • Complete state or local tax setup. You'll need your account numbers, rates, and deposit frequency.
  • Authorize Intuit as your third-party administrator with your state
  • Address Federal EIN or legal business name rejections
  • Connect or verify your bank account for payroll
  • Verify your principal officer

If the issue persists, you can directly contact our support team. They have the tools to further investigate why there's an error when your e-filing 1099.

Additionally, I'll be sharing these links to help manage your 1099 in QuickBooks:

Feel at ease to get back in here if you have follow-up questions about e-filing the 1099 forms. I'm always around to help. Keep safe!

We don't use Payroll in QBO.  We just have contractors that need 1099s.  I did try to access the Payroll settings and received this message:

Something is not quite right

We’re working on Payroll Settings and can’t access your info right now. Give us a few minutes and try again.

Hi there, @wendover555.

I'll ensure you can access the payroll settings. We can perform some troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue.

This unusual behavior is usually a result of too much accumulated historical data. Whenever you visit a website, it saves some information from the web page in its cache and cookies. These files allow the websites you visit most often to load faster. Not to worry, clearing them will do the trick.

First, let's try accessing your account through an incognito window to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue. You can refer to these shortcut keys to open an incognito window in all supported browsers:

  • Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+N
  • Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+P
  • Safari: Command+Shift+N

If you access the settings, switch back to your regular browser. Then, clear its cache. This way, you can access QuickBooks with a clean slate. You can also use a different supported one.

Additionally, we offer a guide on how to pull up reports that show who needs 1099s, payment totals, and more: 1099s Reports.

Please know that you're always welcome to post if you need more help with managing your 1099s. We're always here to have your back. Have a great day!

Hello,

I tried the incognito window and I had the same error message.  I also cleared my cache just in case and am still getting the same error message.

I have been preparing 1099's for years so I am definitely familiar with the process.  This is the first year I've had this problem.
