Buy nowIs it safe to delete old Program Data and Program Files directly for previous versions of QB Desktop from the C drive folders on a PC?
I've used QB Desktop & Enterprise for many years and found that QB takes up alot of space in our hard drive. Is it safe to delete files from Program Files, Program Data, Company Files that are older versions of QB? Is it also safe to delete from the QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery folder if the file is marked "ADR.old"?
Thank you for your help!
You can uninstall any year version of QB Desktop that you no longer use. You can also delete old ADR files. If you are unfamiliar with this cleaning process, you should contact a third-party service provider to do so.
Thank you for the reply. I'll manually delete the ADR.old file to send to my recycle bin.
Thank you for being part of the QuickBooks family for many years, @DDSJohnny. I'll provide information about removing old program data and files in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Yes, you can safely remove the old data files, except the .qbw file type. This file contains your company file and account info, which is crucial when you remove data in this file type.
For more info about different types of files and data, please refer to this article: File types and extensions used by QBDT.
On the other hand, it's also safe to remove the QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery (ADR) folder marked as ADR.old as these file types are older backups. However, it's best to have a recent backup copy before removing or deleting program data and files.
