Issues with Editing Existing Products in QBO

QBO is also not allowing existing products to be edited in any way. I cannot make any name changes or anything like that.  It also isn't allowing new Products to be added via using the "Duplicate" button. In both cases, when you click on "Save and Close" nothing happens. This is a brand new issue that I believe might be related to the latest update. Both my app and the online version have the same issue.

I have also encountered other issues with the Products and Services section today but these are my most pressing issues as I am trying to do invoicing right now.

I tried the Help button and requested to speak with a human and was told that their customer service is not available at the moment. So I'm reaching out the only other way I know how.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? And did you find a way around it?

Is it possible to undo the latest QBO update to see if that fixes the issue?

Issues with Editing Existing Products in QBO

I understand that editing existing products and creating new ones is central to your invoicing process, @tkatke. Know that your voice is valuable, and we appreciate the detail in your message. I want to reassure you that I'm here to provide the necessary support to help you solve this with utmost urgency.

I replicated this on my end. Upon testing, I was able to edit existing products without any issues and use the Duplicate button as well. Please ensure you complete all the necessary fields for a successful process.

Also, I would like to ask if you've encountered any error messages while trying to edit the existing products. Any additional details you can provide will help us understand the issue better and deliver the appropriate solution.

If you have already filled out all the necessary fields, and yet are still unable to make the desired changes, let's open your account in a private window to rule out browser-related issues. Outdated or corrupted cached files can occasionally lead to unexpected system issues, which may have caused the program and feature not to work as intended.

You can do this by using the following keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge: Ctrl+ Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

Once you're able to make the necessary changes, return to your regular browser and clear your cache for a fresh start. You can also switch to other installed supported browsers, which is a good alternative.

Since you mentioned it was also happening in your mobile app,  let's refresh the application to isolate the problem. This process is similar to clearing the cache on your web browser.

For IOS users, please follow these steps:

  1. Open your Settings, then tap General.
  2. Tap iPhone Storage. Choose the QuickBooks Online app.
  3. Click Offload App.

If you're using Android, here's how:

  1. Proceed to the Home menu or tap the three dots in the right upper right corner.
  2. Tap on Settings, then select Refresh Data.
  3. Press Yes.

On the other hand, please note that our support hours are Mondays to Fridays, 6 AM to 6 PM PT. We also open on Saturdays from 6 AM to 3 PM PT. During these times, you can reach out to our expert team, and we will be more than happy to assist you with any concerns or issues you may have.

For future reference, if you have received payment from one of your customers, you can record it in QuickBooks. It will mark your invoices as paid, ensuring that your financial records are up-to-date and accurate.

I know that experiencing challenges editing your existing products affects your ability to work efficiently. Please let me know how it works after taking the troubleshooting steps. We are committed to offering reliable and efficient service to support your business growth.

Issues with Editing Existing Products in QBO

Hi ShyMae,

Thank you for your quick reply. I have realized that the problem is not with the "Duplicate" button, I was also able to get it to work on my end. I realized that it works just fine as long as I'm not using the "Sub Product/Service" section. I am also able to edit most Products. All except two. These two are mentioned in the issue I outline below.

All of my products in QB are in a "Sub Product/Service" (that's what it is called in QBO, I migrated over from Desktop earlier this year, in QBD it's called "Sub-Folder") that I labeled as "Materials". When I started invoicing today, I noticed that all of my products are now in a "Sub Product/Service" named "04bb683a-4d86-4208-8b93-35acb8582aad". The "Materials" still exists in my Product list but it now has no products at all categorized underneath it. Since my customers can't see the "Sub Product/Service", I had decided to ignore that issue for the time being. However, I'm realizing that I believe this issue is the source of the issues I mentioned in my post.

When creating (or Duplicating) a new product, if I use the "Sub Product/Service" check box and click on either "Materials" or the 04bb683a-4d86-4208-8b93-35acb8582aad, and then hit save, nothing happens. There is no error message, literally nothing happens. It's as though I hadn't clicked the Save and Close button at all. If I create or duplicate a new product and I do not use the "Sub Product/Service" check box at all I am able to save it with no issues at all.

"04bb683a-4d86-4208-8b93-35acb8582aad" is not a Product I created in QBO. It is not even set up properly, it's set up as a Service and not a Non-Inventory Part. And some how all of my products have it as their Sub Product/Service. My best guess is that somehow the new update that ran when I opened QBO earlier today has some sort of glitch that created this bug in my Products.

We also are running into an error when editing products. I can open the edit product window, with out changing anything, I click save and the error "Please make a valid entry" under the name box pops up. I have to "X" to close window.
