Letter Templates - Invalid Field String

Hi, I'm currently in the process of updating our business letter templates. I've come across an issue where each time I try to test the template for an invoice letter I receive a warning that the field string for InvoiceNumber is invalid. I have tested to see if this was the only error I would receive if the line (InvoiceNumber) was not present in the template and unfortunately it is happening to everything that has the word invoice associated with it. I'm not 100% sure but I'm starting to think the Add-Ins for Insert Invoice Fields is broken. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.

Hi there, @JPSolty. I'm here now, and let's work this out so you can proceed to update your company's business letter templates in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

 

Before anything else, may I ask what version of Word you're using to create the template? Please be aware that QuickBooks Desktop 2018 to 2020 requires Microsoft Word 2010, 2013, 2016, or even Office 365 (includes 64-bit) when preparing letters. Also, you'll want to ensure that your QuickBooks Desktop is updated and compatible with your Word application.

 

You can also perform the Verify and Rebuild Data in your QBDT company. The Verify Data identifies potential data issues within a company, and then the Rebuild Data resolves most data integrity issues that the Verify Data detects.

If the issue persists after running Verify and Rebuild Data, you can proceed to run QuickBooks Tool Hub. To begin, here's how:

 

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.5.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop). A reminder, If you've installed Tool Hub before, you can find out which version you have. Select the Home tab. The version will be on the bottom.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Hi @Kurt_M, I followed the steps you provided below unfortunately the letter template still gives me a warning about the invalid field string. I am currently using word 2016, along with QuickBooks Premier - Accountant Edition 2021.
