Merging Products

The manufacturer has updated the product number for an item.  I would like to merge the old product number into the new product number, but I get this message.

! Something’s not quite right
QuickBooks is unable to merge inventory items.

I have merged other products like this, so I'm not sure what the problem is with these products.

Merging Products

Hi m_seale,

Let's fix this odd behavior by running some troubleshooting steps.

To start with, let's merge the inventories' product numbers through a private browser. Private browsing helps the system identify possible browser-related issues. You can use these keyboard shortcuts to open one:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Microsoft Edge & Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Control Option P

If you're able to merge the data, you can go back to a regular browser and clear its cache. Piled cache can also be the reason for some unexpected issues on the opened pages like QuickBooks Online.

You can also opt to use a different supported browser like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari.

Furthermore, you can check these articles on how to manage products or services:

You can always post in the forum whenever you have questions about tracking inventories.

I tried the Incognito window, and using a different browser, but I still received the same error message.

I appreciate you for trying the troubleshooting steps I shared previously, m_seale.

I can think of two scenarios on why you are prompted with the same error message. I'm here to help isolate the possibilities and resolve them in no time.

One of the restrictions in merging inventories is the quantity on hand. It's possible that you have entered an Initial quantity on hand for the product/service. Thus, the system prevents you from merging the items.

However, if you've never used the item and didn't enter a quantity on hand, I suggest reaching out to our phone experts so we can investigate the root cause of the issue. You can do so by clicking the ? Help icon.

Feel free to visit our Help Articles page for more tips on overseeing your products and services.

Whenever you have concerns about recording inventories, I'm always here to help you out.
