Join nowI need to move my small and uncomplicated company data from my desktop 2018 application to an online version which is owned by another person. Can the online version set up this company by simply uploading/converting my QBB backup file or does the desktop version have to be converted to a format that is compatible with the online version before it can be uploaded?
Good day, tedmartin100. I hope you're doing fine today.
Let me provide some information about converting the QuickBooks Desktop to Quickbooks Online.
Before we begin, know that QBDT and QBO are different platforms. Thus, there are some data that will not convert to QBO. Manually entering information from Desktop to QuickBooks Online is not necessary or you don't need to start over again. This is because you can just convert your desktop file to a QuickBooks Online company directly. However, I recommend picking the QBDT transactions, lists, or data carefully to avoid duplicate entries on your QBO file.
You might want to review these articles before doing the process:
The steps to migrate your desktop data online depends on the version you're using. You can see the different detailed steps in this article: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.
I’ll be around if you need further help converting your file to QBO. I’d be more than happy to work with you. Have a great day ahead.
Install the trial license of QBD 2021 to upgrade your 2018 file and migrate it to QBO. Hit f2 key and make sure your Total Targets < 350K.
