I started the migration process from QBDT to QBO by doing the first step.. updating the QB Desktop file. A software update was needed but IT is on vacation and I can't get admin access.
Can I continue to work in the QBDT file while I wait for IT to return or will it mess up the migration when I am able to resume it?
TY!
You may migrate data to QBO from any supporting QBD version (i.e 2018-2020). Make sure you have open a QBO account prior to do so.

TY, I'm aware of that. My question is,.. I started the process and clicked on "Update Quickbooks Desktop" but could not fully complete the step. I need IT's admin password. Am I okay to continue to work in the Desktop file until I am able to finish the first step OR will it negatively impact the migration.
Hello again, lstar.
Let me share information with you about the process in importing your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) company file to QuickBooks Online (QBO).
To get your desktop file ready, you're right that your QBDT account must be updated to the latest release. To do so, you'll need to log in to QuickBooks as the Admin since the Admin account has the password. You can ask credentials to your IT or wait for them to come back.
See the move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online article to know more about the process in moving your file.
