Buy nowCan someone tell me if the QB Online account has to be active and not read-only to be able to do this export?
Thank you.
I’ll be happy to answer your concern about exporting data from a canceled subscription, @scogwyn.
Let me share information about moving your data from a canceled subscription in QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). QuickBooks Online will allow you to have read-only access to your data for one year from cancellation.
If you previously had a trial account canceled, you can access and export your data within 90 days from when the subscription was canceled. Otherwise, you’ll have a year from the cancellation to export data.
Also, based on your statement above, I see that you are planning to migrate these data to your QBDT company file. In that manner, you’ll have to import them to the account manually. But first, let’s start exporting this from your QBO:
You can also refer to this article on what happens to your QuickBooks Online data after you cancel. Then, you can also browse this resource to know what lists and other data you can export from QBO.
Afterward, check out this great resource when importing the file to your QBDT Company: Import or export MS Excel files. In addition, you can view this article to know what data you can carry from QBO to QBDT as well as other ways you can import them: Lists and Transactions you can import.

Hi. Thank you. Is there any way to export and import into QB desktop without using excel?
Thanks,
Stephanie
Thanks for your prompt reply, @scogwyn. I'll join this thread and provide insights into moving your data.
We can only export data from QuickBooks Online using excel. However, you can still look for a third-party app to convert your files into other files supported by QuickBooks Desktop.
To find a third-party app, I'll show you how:
Once settled, you can now start importing your data into QBDT. You can review this article for reference: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.
Moreover, you can check out these articles to help you manage your data when migrating services and to navigate the desktop version. This lets you see all the topics on how to efficiently manage your income, expenses, inventory, and your desktop company file:
Feel free to post back again if you have other questions about the conversion process or any QuickBooks related. I'd be willing to lend you a hand. Have a nice day!
Resubscribe your QBO account only for one month. Then install the trial version for QBD 2021 Pro to convert your data. You can purchase QBD 2023 Pro Plus later to work on it.
