Join nowHello,
I currently use an iMac computer running OS X El Capitan (version 10.11.6). Because of the age of this computer, it is not possible to upgrade the operating system (according to Apple). What version of Quickbooks Desktop for Mac would be compatible with this operating system? And where could I find it for purchase? It is ok if Intuit no longer supports the version, as I do not have any other option as buying another computer at this time is not practical. Thanks.

The authorized QB cloud hosting provider only supports QBD Windows 2019-2021. You can use QB anywhere anytime from any device be it Mac, Windows, Android or iOS devices, Chromebooks, Surface Pro and more. All you need to have is an internet connection
Welcome to the Community, ncs7. I can help share insights about the supported version compatible with Mac OS 10.11 (El Capitan).
QuickBooks for Mac 2016 R5 or earlier will run with Mac OS 10.11 (El Capitan) and Mac OS 10.10.2 (Yosemite).

Thanks so much for your quick reply. Do you know where I could purchase that version? I’ve looked everywhere and cannot find it. If I can’t get my hands on it, is there some other means of running Quickbooks Desktop (not Quickbooks Online) on my iMac running El Capitan? Thanks again.

I appreciate you for getting back to us, ncs7.
I'm unable to tell as to where you can check for this kind of version. That being said, I'd recommend posting your concern on our Developers page. They can guide you on what's the best thing to do.
I'll be around if there's anything that I can help. Keep safe!
I wouldn't recommend purchasing and running any outdated version. If you don't have any plan to upgrade your Mac, consider using Parallels to run QB Desktop Windows version instead.
Thank you. I’m not familiar with Parallels...but I see on their website they have 3 versions: desktop, pro, and business. Which would be the one to use with QB for Mac? And would I install Parallels first and then install QB after? Thanks
I appreciate your time getting back in here, @ncs7.
If you're using or you want to purchase QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, the Parallels interface is already set up on your Mac device. Otherwise, if you want to install QuickBooks Desktop for Windows, you will need a Parallels set up on your Mac device. That being said, I suggest consulting an IT guy to help you with the setup.

Parallels Standard edition should be enough. You should install the trial license of it to make sure. You have to also prepare a license of Windows 8.1 or 10.
If by any chance you have a Windows machine, you may have another option to run QBD Windows on your old Mac. You can install QBD Windows on that machine and deploy a private cloud.
Thanks...I actually just saw on the Parallels website that their newest version for Mac (v16) cannot use Ep Capitan as a host OS. They have an older version (v14) that can...but I can’t find it anywhere. Do you know where I could find it, and if not, is there any alternative solution? I don’t have a Windows computer. Thanks
Parallels Desktop for Mac emulates PC hardware, so operating systems that are not present in this list can work as well. They are not on the list because they didn't test them on the latest version or they found some critical issues. You should install the trial license of it to make sure.
As for the last resort, put your QB Desktop Windows license on an authorized QB cloud hosting.

Thanks..that cloud option looks interesting. I know there’s a monthly fee, but would I really be able to use the latest QB for Windows or Mac on my current system running El Capitan? They seem to offer discounted pricing on QB too which is nice.
